Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Instructional Youth Advocate (Level II) will work independently of certified staff assisting students in developing competence in core curriculum areas to meet sate performance standards and assisting students and their parents in personal development, recreational, cultural and life skills activities. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Thoroughly reviews the grant proposal to understand the philosophy and mission of the 21st CCLC program. Selects and /or designs, in collaboration with the Site Coordinator, a curriculum based on the proposal and academic standards to help at-risk youth meet or exceed state academic standards. Design lesson plans or character education sessions to provide academic and/or social-emotional activities that meet identified needs of students. Collect and set up the equipment needed prior to the beginning of your class. Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, assists in the planning delivery, and supervision of youth development, recreational, and cultural activities for students. Works closely with 21st CCLC program staff to ensure enrolled students' needs are met. Provides input into the planning of curriculum and program activities. Under the direction of the site Coordinator, assists in the planning of activities to guide parents as they incorporate family literacy and educational skills into their daily family life. Communicates with students' regular classroom teachers. Participates with project staff in linking children and families with needed community services. Assists 21st CCLC staff with non-instructional duties such as snack and bathroom routines. Performs required record-keeping and assists project staff with the capture of data for evaluative purposes. Participates in 21st CCLC professional learning activities. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents, and children Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: College degree from an accredited college or university or at least two full years of verifiable teaching experience. Candidate must have successful experience in working with at-risk youth and must work well with people of diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. Candidate must possess qualities necessary to sustain a class including but not limited to supporting the mission of 21st CCLC, creating lesson plans, maintaining classroom management, and developing and delivering engaging activities to the students. Candidate must possess highly developed human relations and communication skills. Knowledge and skills in data analysis, Excel, Microsoft Word, and/or internet access are required. Foster positive staff, parent, and child relations. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The 21st Century Instructional Advocate Level II is funded entirely through the 21st CCLC Grant funds and the position is contingent upon availability of grant funds. The salary has a maximum cap based on grant funding. The position is funded for 149 days for two and half hours daily for Elementary Schools and 120 hours and three hours for Middle and High Schools after school per day; and, in addition, four hours per month on weekends, and five and one-half hours per day for ten or twenty days during the summer depending on the level (Elementary or Secondary) based on schedule availability. Up to 30 additional hours can be required for professional learning activities and to meet evaluative criteria.
