This is a unique opportunity to shape a growing service, support patients at critical transition points, and be part of a connected community of psychologists across PHC.</p>\n<p><strong>Your responsibilities will include:</strong></p>\n<p>Reporting to the Program Director, Surgery and under the clinical direction of the Professional Practice Leader, Psychology, the Psychologist, Transitional Pain Clinic is in charge of psychological services for the Transitional Pain Clinic at the St. Paul’s Hospital site. The Psychologist, Transitional Pain Clinic works within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with the established standards of professional practice of the College of Psychologists of British Columbia and within the vision and values of the organization. The Psychologist, Transitional Pain Clinic is responsible for the development, management and provision of psychology services within the Transitional Pain Clinic including providing individual and group therapy to clients and their families. Acts as a clinical member of an interdisciplinary team. Designs and participates in research activities related to the psychological aspects of pain related diseases. Participates in program planning and evaluation, care team meetings and rounds.</p>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>Deliver specialized psychological care in surgical pain management:</strong> Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and provide individual and group therapy to patients navigating acute and post-operative pain. You’ll address factors such as anxiety, trauma, and pain-related distress that impact recovery, using evidence-based approaches tailored to a short-term, high-impact care model.</li>\n <li><strong>Integrate psychological expertise within an interdisciplinary care team:</strong> Act as a core clinical member alongside physicians, nurses, and other health professionals, contributing to case conferences, rounds, and care planning. You’ll help shape treatment decisions by bringing a strong mental health perspective to optimize patient outcomes before and after surgery.</li>\n <li><strong>Build and evolve a growing psychology service within the clinic: </strong>Lead the development of psychological services within TPC, including screening processes, care pathways, and group programming. You’ll also contribute to program planning, evaluation, and quality improvement, helping to strengthen and expand the clinic’s impact.</li>\n <li><strong>Advance research, education, and knowledge sharing:</strong> Participate in and lead research initiatives related to pain and psychological health, while also providing consultation, teaching, and mentorship to staff and learners. You’ll be supported by and connected to a broader community of psychologists across PHC, fostering ongoing collaboration and professional growth.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>What You Bring</h2>\n<p><strong>Education, Training and Experience</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited University, plus one year supervised internship.</li>\n <li>Two (2) years recent related experience in a medical setting delivering a broad range of psychological services, including basic neuro-cognitive assessments as a member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team.</li>\n <li>Requires a research background and ability to design and implement research projects.</li>\n <li>Current full registration as a Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) or eligible for registration within one year of employment.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Skills and Abilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Knowledge of therapeutic, diagnostic and consultation techniques.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of psychology assessment and treatment methods and tools.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of evidence based psychological practice.</li>\n <li>Ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator.</li>\n <li>Ability to communicate with and deal effectively with co-workers, clients and their families, both one-on-one and in groups.</li>\n <li>Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.</li>\n <li>Ability to teach and provide clinical supervision.</li>\n <li>Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.</li>\n <li>Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.</li>\n <li>Ability to operate related equipment including personal computer and related word processing, digital medical chart software, telehealth and spreadsheet software.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>What We Offer</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>Competitive salary:</strong> $52.81 - $65.96 CAD per hour, depending on experience </li>\n <li><strong>Growth opportunities:</strong> We welcome individuals at all stages of their career, offering opportunities for professional development and growth. </li>\n <li><strong>State-of-the-art facilities:</strong> The new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus will be the most innovative approach to the delivery of integrated care in B.C. and Canada, designed to appropriately address the future health needs of patients, families, and our communities. Check out the video below to learn more and meet some of the members of the team you'd be joining:</p>\n<p></p>\n<p><strong>Your Day to Day:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Coordinates the development, management and provision of psychology services within the Transitional Pain Clinic through methods such as analyzing treatment needs and establishing and maintaining policies, procedures and guidelines.</li>\n <li>Participates in the short and long-term planning for the Transitional Pain Clinic through methods such as evaluating the effectiveness of treatment within these programs, identifying opportunities for change and formulating recommendations for quality improvement to ensure optimal outcomes are met.</li>\n <li>Assists in the development and maintenance of psychological screening methods such that patients and families who are in psychological distress are appropriately identified and referred for full psychological assessment and treatment, when appropriate. In addition, the Psychologist provides training and support in the use of these screening methods.</li>\n <li>Completes psychological assessments of referred clients through methods such as reviewing client history, gathering information from the referral source/client/other relevant persons, interviewing clients, conducting or supervising testing and developing/determining most effective methods of treatment to improve client health status. When applicable, these assessments result in multiaxial diagnoses based on the most recent DSM categories categories, and treatment recommendations reflecting evidence based psychological practice.</li>\n <li>Completes assessments of psychological factors, which may adversely affect the recovery process and overall outcome of the patient. Participates in regular rounds, case conference and care team meetings, provides input and actively participates in decision making processes.</li>\n <li>Provides individual and group psychotherapy to clients within the Transitional Pain Clinic including developing and implementing didactic and experiential group modules.</li>\n <li>Liaises with external agencies in the care of clients throughout the healthcare continuum by methods such as following up with outside agencies including education institutions, health care facilities and related agencies. Organizes treatment plans, participates in case management and attends internal and external interdisciplinary meetings to ensure continuity of care of clients.</li>\n <li>Attends clinical/case conferences as a member of an interdisciplinary team for client reviews, and treatment planning. Duties include providing input from a psychology perspective on a variety of care issues related to the client, and program effectiveness to ensure proper and effective treatment of the client.</li>\n <li>Interprets psychological issues and interventions for interdisciplinary team members through consultation and case discussion, to ensure common understanding of the psychological issue.</li>\n <li>Maintains client records through methods such as documenting client participation in the programs, most effective treatment, charting client information and psychological findings, preparing progress notes and psychological reports in accordance with established a. standards, and policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements and document for future reference.</li>\n <li>Provides formal and informal consultation to staff/community psychologists, other multidisciplinary team members of the hospital, other health care facilities, and students.
