Description

POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Youth Sports Coordinator, Basketball Coaches are responsible for creating an inclusive and safe learning environment that allows players of all skill levels to develop, learn, and have fun. Coaches are expected to run multiple program areas (teams, clinics, camps, etc.). FUNCTIONS Reasonable Accommodations Statement To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. Essential Functions Arrive prior to start of program to set up and prepare gym Attentive and engaging with each player in the assigned program Facilitate program curriculum (clinic, camp, teams, etc.) Establish positive relationships with players and parents Be proactive in cleaning and sanitizing courts and equipment before/after each program Assume responsibility in emergency situations, follow site emergency procedures Proper documentation of accidents/incidents (injuries, broken equipment, etc.) Constant supervision of all participants in assigned program Provide curriculum feedback to supervisor Clear and prompt communication with supervisor Additional Functions Participate in all Regional Staff meetings and functions Ability to work well in high stress situations, responding properly to critical incidents, and act swiftly in emergency situations Must be able to establish harmonious relations with staff team, volunteers, school districts, and local partners Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation Knowledgeable of programs coached REQUIREMENTS Must pass YMCA background check CPR and First Aid certifications or ability to acquire certifications within 30 days of employment Prior work experience with Youth Sports players and parents preferred Reliable transportation to travel to sites across West Region (Beaverton, Hillsboro, Forest Grove, etc.) Attire: Clean ‘nice’ bottoms (sweats, shorts, jeans, pants), staff shirt and name tag WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is primarily performed at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA. Work may be performed at community partner gymnasiums as assigned.
