    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">The Watch Engineer&nbsp;performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of multi-fuel high pressure boilers and turbines used in the production of steam and electricity.&nbsp;<strong>This temporary position pays $27.11/hr.</strong></p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in;\">Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Operates multi-fuel high pressure boilers, co-steam generation turbines, steam turbine feed&nbsp;water pumps, condensate pumps, air compressors, I.D. fans, F.D. fans, oil pumps, booster</li>\n <li>Continually inspects the heating plant to insure proper operation of all equipment.</li>\n <li>Records indicator, meter, gauge, fuel use and other instrument readings in a log book.</li>\n <li>Operates multiple valves and complex machinery to regulate material input to boilers and&nbsp;steam output.</li>\n <li>Maintains a variety of operational records, logs, and reports.</li>\n <li>Interprets data to make decisions about regulating and/or adjusting controls.</li>\n <li>Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.</li>\n <li>Makes daily operating decisions and takes appropriate action in emergencies.</li>\n <li>Does preventive maintenance such as oiling and cleaning on boilers and all auxiliary&nbsp;equipment; changes guns as needed.</li>\n <li>Ignites boilers and places them in or out of service according to condition by following&nbsp;complex procedures.</li>\n <li>Blows down boilers and tubes.</li>\n <li>Is responsible for good housekeeping at the heating plant.</li>\n <li>Oversees feed water testing and treatment<br/>&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>About the University:</strong><br/><br/>The University of Maine is a community of more than 11,900 undergraduate and graduate students, and 2,500 employees located on the Orono campus, the regional campus in Machias, and throughout the state. Learn more about what the Bangor region has to offer <a href=\"https://www.visitbangormaine.com/about-the-region/the-region-at-a-glance/\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.<br/><br/><strong>Qualifications:</strong><br/><strong>Required:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).</li>\n <li>High Pressure Boiler License, stationary steam license strongly preferred</li>\n <li>At least three years related experience</li>\n <li>Safety principles;</li>\n <li>Valid Maine driver’s license</li>\n <li>Ability to work rotating shifts</li>\n <li>Work environment may include unpleasant odors, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, excessive noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, gases, dust, and poor ventilation.</li>\n <li>Position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, standing, kneeling, stooping, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting and repetitive motions.</li>\n <li>Equipment use and troubleshooting;</li>\n <li>Performing manual labor;</li>\n <li>Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets;</li>\n <li>Ability to pass required safety training;</li>\n <li>Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br/>Candidates selected to proceed to the final stages of the search process will be requested&nbsp;to provide a list of names and contact information for references.</p>\n<p>Incomplete application materials cannot be considered.
