Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Collaborate with bariatric surgeons, physicians, dietitians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team member
Participate in case conferences, treatment planning meetings, and program development initiatives
Coordinate referrals to community resources, higher levels of care, or specialty behavioral health services as needed
Advocate for patients’ psychosocial needs within the medical system
Maintain licensure and comply with all state, federal, and organizational regulations
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and program outcomes tracking
Provide patient education related to behavioral health, coping strategies, and long-term success following bariatric intervention
May facilitate bariatric or behavioral health support groups (if applicable)
Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for bariatric surgery candidates, including evaluation of mental health history, substance use, coping skills, readiness for surgery, and adherence capacity
Provide pre- and post-operative counseling to bariatric patients addressing behavioral change, emotional adjustment, body image, trauma history, and lifestyle modification
Deliver individual therapy using evidence-based modalities
Assess and manage co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and stress-related concerns
Complete required clinical documentation, assessments, and treatment plans in compliance with regulatory and program standards

Required Licenses

Knowledge of eating disorders, trauma-informed care, and health behavior change preferred
Familiarity with integrated care or hospital-based settings preferred
Experience facilitating groups or psychoeducational programming preferred
Required Skills
Strong assessment, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication skills required
