Description
Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum for enrolled three-five-year-old children. The Child Development Supervisor is also responsible for the supervision of assigned interns, practicum students, volunteers, individuals conducting research in the classroom. Duties Responsibilities: Development and implementation of programs and operational procedures for preschool children which focus on the promotion of a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets Illinois licensing requirements and the standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This includes: Planning and implementation of daily classroom and outdoor activities which focus on child health/safety and are designed to promote development in all areas (cognitive, intellectual, social, emotional, fine/large motor). Includes creating lesson plans, interacting with children, and documentation of learning. Attend to the physical needs of the children including supervision of dressing, feeding, napping and toileting. Observe and evaluate children’s developmental patterns using the UIC Children’s Center assessment methods and corresponding assessment tools. Adjust classroom activities according to information gathered. Maintain daily communication and partnerships with parents of children. Includes development of weekly classroom related newsletters, preparing and conducting parent/teacher conferences, sharing information related to developmental screenings and assessments and share additional resources/referrals when appropriate. Additionally, participate in family events held at the UIC Children’s Center. Work with other team members to maintain a clean, organized, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children. Participate in activities leading to professional growth including goal setting, weekly reflective practices, in-service and pre-service professional development activities held in the community and conducted by the UIC Children’s Center in order to meet Illinois licensing guidelines (20 clock hours/year) and standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Train, supervise and evaluate assigned student employees, practicum students, interns, and volunteers interested in working with young children and their families. Cooperate with research activities by being aware of research activities scheduled for the classroom and by assisting researchers to develop rapport with the children in order to facilitate their willing participation. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
