Description
The successful candidate will initially perform radiation engineering efforts to establish the basis for the selection, development, evaluation, analysis, testing, and documentation of radiation effects in electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts and circuits for spacecraft and their payloads. This position will concurrently primarily support single event effects (SEE) testing, as well as prompt dose testing, heavy ion testing, and neutron testing as those opportunities present themselves.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
What You’ll Do:
Support Single Event Effects (SEE), prompt dose, heavy ion, and neutron radiation testing campaigns, including learning to design tests, generating test plans and radiation testing procedures, onsite testing across the United States at various facilities (laboratories, universities, etc.), evaluation and interpretation of data, and writing test reports to support spaceflight hardware. This role will be mentored by a Technical Fellow IV (Eng. Sr. Prin. IV), who is a national leader in radiation testing of sensors with over 25 years of experience. Be personally mentored and trained one-on-one by a Staff Consultant (Eng. Sr. Prin. II) Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Mission Systems Assurance (MSA) Radiation Effects Department, who has over 20 years of combined direct Radiation Engineering experience to perform, generate and be responsible for Total Ionization Dose (TID), SEE, and Displacement Damage Dose (DDD) radiation analysis reports in accordance with customer requirements or BAE Systems Space and Misson Systems (SMS) standard practices. Review part lists against program requirements and circuit design to assess radiation TID, SEE, DDD, and Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity (ELDRS). Work closely with circuit-design teams and system-level teams to determine radiation impacts and ensure compliance to program radiation requirements. Use presentation skills to convey radiation design risks and test results at program and customer milestone reviews. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
