Description Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 This position focuses on South Florida, specifically the Miami region. This position is responsible for supporting small employers in South Florida by promoting safe and healthy workplace practices through the Safety Florida Consultation Program. The role requires advanced occupational safety and health expertise to provide consultation services, inspections, and compliance assessments aimed at identifying and correcting workplace hazards in accordance with Federal OSHA regulations. Responsibilities • Schedules, prepares, travels, and provides on-site consultation services and/or inspections of small businesses with regard to safety and health regulations. • Interviews employees and management to formulate and appraise workplace safety and health management systems. Provides formal and informal instructions to reduce injury/illness rates, workers’ compensation premiums and the recurrence of near miss incidents and accidents. • Coaches and instructs employers in accident analyses to determine injury/illness trends; advocates, assists and guides employers to be self reliant and self sufficient in all aspects relating to occupational safety and health. • Conducts full-shift employee monitoring and collects samples to determine the workplace exposures of employees to toxic chemical and physical agents. • Interprets/analyzes technical data and calculations obtained from conducting site visits. • Guides employers in developing and implementing a facility-specific safety and health management system; assists in development of an “action plan” to correct hazards identified in the workplace. • Prepares formal reports; ensures accurate and timely data entry and documentation of reports in accordance with occupational safety and health regulations and federal guidelines. • Works with line supervisors to incorporate safety procedures into their electrical, mechanical and facilities management plans, procedures. • Develops techniques for safety directors to better train their employees and mangers at the facilities. • Develops and implements statewide training and education programs for small businesses throughout the State of Florida. • Creates training materials, and makes both formal and informal presentations to employers as well as students attending classes sponsored by USF Training Institute Education Center. Researches web to provide most current safety and health technology; explores and investigates economically feasible engineering and administrative industrial hygiene, safety controls, and personal protective equipment for employer implementation. • Participates on various safety and health local and state committees, and safety and health fair planning committees. • Completes administrative functions related to the functions of the position. • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a Physical science, Engineering or related field, with one year experience in a safety and health consultation or inspection-related position. • Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree. • A Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene and certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are Preferred. • Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S. • SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements • A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed: (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree; (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree; (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree • Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment. • Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
