Description
JOB TITLE: Recycling Sorter
LOCATION: Santa Maria
FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Recycling Sorter is responsible for sorting materials, such as organic waste and general debris, from the tip floor. This role helps ensure proper disposal and recycling efficiency and environmental compliance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
Manually sort material, cardboard, plastics, metal, glass, and trash by hand from the tip floor into designated bins. Remove non-acceptable items from recyclable materials and green waste. Assist coworkers as needed with heavy or bulky items. Assist in loading and unloading materials when needed. Maintain a clean work area and keep it free of debris. Attend weekly safety meetings. Ability to adhere to work schedule. Completes special projects as may be assigned and prioritized by the on-site manager. Safely perform duties in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. Comply with OSHA regulations when using hazardous chemicals on company premises; comply with company safety regulations. Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be capable of learning specific sorting and material handling procedures. Previous experience in recycling, warehouse, sanitation or manufacturing environments preferred. Ability to stand for eight hours per day Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be able to communicate and understand instructions. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be dependable, self-motivated individual.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education not required 6 months of relevant work experience
