Description Part Time Speech and Language Pathologist 2026 - 2027 School Year Start Date: August 2026 Job Summary: The position of the speech and language pathologist is designed to serve individual or small groups of students in need of speech, oral language and nonverbal communication instruction. The speech and language pathologist should have knowledge of the development of phonology and the articulation of speech sounds, morphology (rules governing word forms), syntax (word order in sentences), discourse (organization of connected language beyond the single sentence), semantics (meaning), and pragmatics or verbal and nonverbal communication in a social context. It is important to understand normal language development, as well as language disorders. Pay & Benefits: * Salary starting at $34,800: (salary is commensurate with education, licensure and experience) * Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance * Short and Long Term Disability and Life Insurance * Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programs * School Break; sick and personal days prorated based on days worked per week * Tuition Reimbursement for continuing education * Professional Development Opportunities Schedule: * Full-time (10-Month Contract) * 2026-2027 School Year * 3 full days a week: Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 3:45 pm, except Thursdays 8:00 am – 4:00 pm * Five Week Extended School Year Program optional Requirements: Minimum Education - Master’s Degree Certification: Illinois State Licensed Speech/Language Pathologist Illinois Type 73 School Service Personnel OR Professional Educator License Duties & Responsibilities: Preparation Skills: Evaluate the student's speech and language skills using formal and informal diagnostic instruments. Develop an Individualized Educational Program for each student. Translate assessment results into remedial programming. Maintain student service logs. Implementation Skills: Exhibit knowledge of subject matter to implement objectives. Utilize alternative and creative ways to achieve objectives in the speech and language areas across settings. Assist parents and students in understanding the student's learning disability, develop realistic expectations and goals, articulate the strengths and weaknesses of the student, and help the student become a self-advocate. Help the students understand their learning disabilities as they relate to academic tasks and social settings. Promote the teaching of self-advocacy skills in the classroom and coordination of curriculum between divisions and among the classes with respect to teaching life/social/study skills that are important for successful mainstreaming and transition to other programs, schools, etc. Evaluation Skills: Record, evaluate and report on-going student language growth and development. Update Individualized Educational Program for each student. Update review status on each student's Individualized Educational Program goals quarterly. Write two (2) progress reports, one per semester. Participate in parent conferences and student staffings. Teamwork: Educate the staff with respect to oral language development and disorders in children and adolescents. Assist the staff in integrating instruction in oral language, reading, and written language. When appropriate, lead or co-lead language/pragmatics groups in the classroom. Act as a liaison between Cove School and private therapists/agencies to consolidate services to students. Maintain contact with students' outside therapists. Non-classroom responsibilities: Attend faculty and unit meetings. Attend weekly department' meetings. About Us: The Cove School is a non-public therapeutic day school for students with learning disabilities located in Northbrook, IL. Cove students come from 60 nearby different public schools, and families can also choose to fund tuition privately. Classes are kept small. Teaching is flexible and varies according to the individual student’s learning style. A team of onsite specialists work collaboratively to provide students intensive, integrated related services.
