Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities including the greater St. Louis area</p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><div><div>Job Description</div></div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><p>TITLE: REPAIRMAN<br />ORGANIZATION UNIT: Power Operations, Power Plants<br />APPLICABLE TO: Fossil Fuel Plants<br />DUTIES:<br />Under direct, indirect, or intermittent supervision, and working on a rotating shift schedule or day<br />schedule as required, to do a general range of electric arc and gas welding and cutting, brazing,<br />pipefitting and insulation installation and/or removal on all varieties of power plant equipment.<br />Immediate responsibility at times for the working direction of an apprentice. Work includes a<br />general range of electric and gas welding on power plant equipment including structural steel<br />erection and piping where certification is not required. In addition, to perform other<br />maintenance work on heavy mechanical equipment, such as replacement of liner plates in fans,<br />coal chutes and hoppers; welding repairs to castings and equipment; fitting and welding of all<br />sizes of piping and valves, including items such as measuring, laying out, cutting, threading,<br />bending, fitting and installation of pipe and tubing, replacement of flange, valve, and heater<br />gaskets; valve repacking, repair and overhaul; cleaning and replacement of condenser and heat<br />exchanger tubes; where applicable, repair of traveling water screens. Refractory and insulation<br />work includes items such as but not limited to furnace wall insulation and protective covering;<br />insulation coverings on furnace wall fire side linings, slag tanks and hoppers; gas and hot air<br />ducts and breeching; precipitator casings, main, reheat, and extraction steam lines; boiler feed<br />piping; steam and condensate drains; feedwater heaters and storage tanks; turbine casings,<br />steam chests and valves. In connection with this work:<br />Take welder qualification tests as required.<br />Work from drawings and sketches.<br />Check (including Workman’s Protection Assurance where appropriate) to insure<br />that equipment to be worked on has been properly isolated and protected.<br />Obtain required materials from storeroom.<br />Set up rigging and operate lifting equipment.<br />Erect and work from scaffolds.<br />Operate and/or use mobile equipment, shop equipment, portable power tools,<br />other portable tools, hand tools and test equipment as required to accomplish<br />assigned jobs.<br />Prepare reports of work done accompanied by sketches, if necessary; complete<br />such forms as may be required.<br />Repairman (continued)<br />3252 - Repairman 8/11/85<br />3352 - PPM Repairman Page 2 of 3<br />3354 - Plant / PPM Repairman Apprentice<br />Work alone or in combination with other Repairman (Certified) or Repairman<br />classifications when assigned.<br />Do similar and less skilled work as required.<br />SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:<br />For carrying out prescribed safety precautions and safeguards for the protection of himself and<br />others.<br />When necessary, check for explosive gases before operating torches.<br />For observing and insuring that those temporarily under his direction observe safety instructions<br />issued or applicable.<br />For performing work without disturbing other equipment.<br />For executing orders quickly and properly.<br />For accuracy of work within required tolerances or specifications.<br />For special care and watchfulness to avoid errors in the repair and assembly of equipment.<br />For proper use and care of a wide variety of tools, material, and equipment.<br />For disposition of surplus and scrap materials after each job and keeping areas where work is<br />performed clean and orderly to maintain an atmosphere conducive to good work practices and<br />safety.<br />CONTACTS:<br />With Plant Operations, Maintenance, and Storeroom supervision and personnel.<br />WORKING CONDITIONS:<br />Full range of temperatures from very hot to sub-freezing. Sometimes sudden changes from one<br />extreme to the other. Subject to noise, dusts, dirt, fumes, odors, drafts, and inclement weather.<br />Work at times in cramped and artificial light is frequently necessary.<br />HAZARDS:<br />Subject to hazards existing from possible failure of nearby equipment; to danger from falling<br />while working at elevations above grade, to burns from hot metal, piping or slag; to eye injury<br />from arc flashes; or from any relaxation of the constant care to observe all required safety rules;<br />and to the usual hazards encountered in mechanical construction and maintenance work.<br />Occasionally exposed to noxious fumes in confined places.<br />Repairman (continued)<br />3251 - Certified Repairman 8/11/85<br />3351 - PPM Certified Repairman Page 3 of 3<br />3353 - Plant / PPM Certified Repairman Apprentice<br />QUALIFICATIONS:<br />Qualification standards as established in the Apprenticeship Program.
