This position will be working on campus.</p><p><strong>OVERVIEW</strong></p><p>Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI employees exhibit our values of integrity, honor, dedication, loyalty, and respect in every interaction with each other, our students, the campus community, and guests of Cal Poly Pomona. &nbsp;</p><p>Since 2014, Associated Students Inc., Adventures has been providing unique recreational opportunities to over 12,000 Cal Poly Pomona students annually. Everyday students and staff within this community challenge themselves to embrace new opportunities and partake in life-changing experiences that bring full value to their college experience.  Hosting both technical and experiential programing, Adventures focuses on creating competent recreators within both indoor and outdoor disciplines. Through our wilderness outings, Bronco Peak rock wall, Gear Rental Center, instructional workshops, and certification courses, Adventures provides an opportunity for students to build a strong community that embraces inclusivity, learning and the development of lifelong hobbies and friends. &nbsp;</p><p><strong>POSITION DEFINITION</strong></p><p>Under minimal supervision from the Adventure Education Manager, the Adventures Instructor I is responsible for promoting the adventures program at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) and leading adventures classes, clinics, and special events. The Adventure Instructor I offers safe, effective and fun instruction in group settings and performs skilled tasks requiring advanced certification, specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience and considerable independent judgment and decision-making.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</strong><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><ul><li>Develop and deliver adventures classes, clinics, and programs appropriate for varying levels of technical ability and including rescue skills and teambuilding&nbsp;</li><li>Arrive on time to scheduled class, clinic, or special event; ensure that programs begin and end on time&nbsp;</li><li>Clean and organize equipment after each class, clinic, and special event&nbsp;</li><li>Report accurate participation numbers, as directed&nbsp;</li><li>Complete all forms associated with specific class, clinic, or program&nbsp;</li><li>Enforce Bronco Peak and BRIC policies&nbsp;</li><li>Maintain current knowledge of ASI and Campus Recreation programs and services&nbsp;</li><li>Assist with Adventures Attendant training&nbsp;</li><li>Attend trainings, meetings and workshops as required&nbsp;</li><li>Maintain open communication with the Adventure Education Manager&nbsp;</li><li>Respond to emergencies and injuries and provide care as required until the arrival of emergency medical services &nbsp;</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>Current AMGA or PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor certification&nbsp;</li><li>Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification&nbsp;within 30 days of hire.</li><li>Minimum of 1 year of technical rock-climbing experience or other relevant outdoor recreation experience&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to teach one or more formats such as Anchor Building, Lead Climbing, Technique and&nbsp;</li><li>Movement, Slacklining, Team Building, Backpacking, Primitive Skills, Skateboarding, Fishing, paddling, etc.<strong><em>&nbsp;</em></strong>&nbsp;</li><li>Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to act calmly and effectively in emergency situations&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to maintain professional work conduct&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to make independent decisions and make recommendations&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close&nbsp;</li><li>supervision&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet, and other computer applications in use&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community&nbsp;</li></ul><p><strong>EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY</strong>&nbsp;</p><p>Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>WORK ENVIRONMENT</strong><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax.
