Description

Proper Hospitality is seeking a service-driven Banquet Manager at Montauk Yacht Club, our 107-room luxury property within The Collective. Spanning 35 acres on Montauk’s Star Island, Montauk Yacht Club offers waterfront views, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options and over 200 wet slips that can accommodate boats from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. Holding eight decades of East End history as an elite social club and thoughtfully reborn for the modern traveler, guests can expect classic East Coast architecture, well-appointed interiors and detail-driven amenities. Position Overview The Banquet Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the banquet department, ensuring every event is executed with precision, elegance, and the highest level of personalized service. This role partners closely with the Events, Culinary, and Sales teams to deliver flawless experiences for social celebrations, corporate meetings, brand activations, and bespoke luxury events. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with refined service standards, a strong operational mindset, and a passion for creating memorable moments. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Supervise all banquet operations, including event setup, service, breakdown, and room resets Ensure each event adheres to detailed BEOs, service standards, and Montauk Yacht Club’s luxury brand identity Lead pre-shift meetings to review event details, service expectations, and assignments Maintain a strong on-floor presence to guide staff, anticipate needs, and ensure seamless flow Service Excellence Deliver gracious, intuitive, and highly attentive service that exceeds guest expectations Work closely with clients onsite, providing support and adjustments as needed during events Ensure guest concerns are addressed promptly and professionally, maintaining a polished, solution-oriented demeanor Uphold rigorous cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards throughout banquet spaces Team Management & Development Recruit, train, and mentor banquet captains, servers, bartenders, and support staff Create schedules that align staffing levels with event needs and budget guidelines Provide coaching and performance feedback to build a cohesive, motivated, and service-driven team Foster a collaborative culture rooted in respect, professionalism, and continuous improvement Collaboration & Communication Partner with the Conference Services Manager, Sales Team, and Executive Chef to ensure event details are understood and executed accurately Attend weekly BEO meetings, operations meetings, and event walk-throughs Communicate changes, client requests, and operational needs clearly and efficiently to all departments Financial Stewardship Manage labor costs through efficient scheduling, staffing adjustments, and adherence to productivity standards Oversee inventory of equipment, linens, tabletop items, and service supplies Reduce waste and support cost-control initiatives without compromising the guest experience Assist with billing verification by confirming consumption, guarantees, and additional charges Quality Assurance & Innovation Monitor service quality and consistency, identifying opportunities for improvement Recommend enhancements to service rituals, presentation standards, and banquet workflows Support the creation of unique luxury touches that elevate event experiences and reinforce brand identity Qualifications 3–5+ years of banquet or event operations experience, preferably in a luxury hotel or high-end venue Proven leadership skills with a hands-on, service-oriented approach Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple events simultaneously Familiarity with event planning systems and BEO processes Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands Passion for hospitality, teamwork, and delivering elevated guest experiences Why Join Proper Hospitality At Proper, we build experiences that move people — and that begins with the team behind them.
