    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reports To: Athletic Director / Principal</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Position Summary</span></span></p>\n<p>To provide leadership, organization, and supervision for the Sussex Central High School varsity baseball program. The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, including practice planning, player development, game preparation, and supervision of assistant coaches, student-athlete safety, and compliance with VHSL and school division policies.</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">Key Responsibilities</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plan, organize, and conduct all practices, conditioning sessions, and team activities for the varsity baseball program.</li>\n<li>Teach and develop baseball fundamentals, including hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, catching, base running, game strategy, and sportsmanship.</li>\n<li>Prepare student-athletes for interscholastic competition through skill development, physical conditioning, and mental preparation.</li>\n<li>Develop and implement offensive and defensive strategies designed to maximize team performance.</li>\n<li>Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches while coordinating responsibilities within the coaching staff.</li>\n<li>Monitor and enforce team rules, discipline, attendance, and conduct consistent with school, division, and VHSL policies.</li>\n<li>Ensure student-athlete safety by teaching proper techniques, monitoring conditioning programs, enforcing safety standards, and adhering to concussion and emergency response protocols.</li>\n<li>Coordinate participation in games, scrimmages, tournaments, camps, clinics, and other approved events.</li>\n<li>Maintain accurate records of athlete eligibility, attendance, statistics, schedules, and VHSL documentation.</li>\n<li>Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, faculty, administration, and the athletic department.</li>\n<li>Coordinate fundraising activities and team-building opportunities in accordance with school division guidelines.</li>\n<li>Manage team equipment, uniforms, inventory, ordering, maintenance, and storage.</li>\n<li>Attend required VHSL rules clinics, coaching education programs, and maintain all required certifications.</li>\n<li>Promote academic achievement, leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development among student-athletes.</li>\n<li>Assist with recruitment and development of future baseball players through collaboration with middle school and youth baseball programs when appropriate.</li>\n<li>Represent Sussex Central High School and Sussex County Public Schools in a professional and positive manner within the community.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience coaching and/or participating in baseball at the high school level or higher preferred.</li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of baseball fundamentals, player development, game management, and safety regulations.</li>\n<li>Familiarity with VHSL rules, eligibility requirements, and athletic compliance standards.</li>\n<li>Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.</li>\n<li>Teaching certification preferred (may vary by school division).</li>\n<li>Compliance with all background checks, school division hiring requirements, and VHSL coaching certifications.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">Work Conditions</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practices, games, tournaments, camps, and events held after school, evenings, weekends, and school holidays.</li>\n<li>Travel required for away games, tournaments, and team events.</li>\n<li>Seasonal stipend position (supplemental contract) unless otherwise assigned additional duties.</li>\n<li>Outdoor work environment requiring extended periods of standing, physical activity, and active supervision.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">Performance Standards</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full compliance with VHSL regulations and Sussex County Public Schools policies regarding eligibility, safety, and ethical conduct.</li>\n<li>Establishes and maintains a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture focused on excellence and school pride.</li>\n<li>Reliability in attending practices, games, tournaments, meetings, and professional development opportunities.</li>\n<li>Maintains effective communication with athletic administration, staff, student-athletes, and parents.</li>\n<li>Ensures proper care and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, facilities, and playing surfaces.</li>\n<li>Demonstrates measurable program growth in athlete development, leadership, sportsmanship, academic success, and competitive performance.</li>\n<li>Promotes a safe environment that prioritizes student-athlete well-being and success.</li>\n<li>Supports the mission and vision of Sussex Central High School and Sussex County Public Schools through positive representation of the baseball program.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">An Equal Opportunity Employer</span></p>\n<p>The Sussex County School Board is an equal opportunity employer;
