Through its National Peening division, the company delivers precision shot peening, blasting, and cleaning services to aerospace, medical, and industrial customers who demand the highest levels of quality and compliance. Position Summary The Quality Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of all quality-related activities at the Wallingford, CT facility, while also supporting and overseeing Quality functions at the National Peening Salem, VA location. This role ensures compliance with all customer, regulatory, and internal quality system requirements and drives continuous improvement across both locations. The Quality Manager serves as the site Management Representative for the Quality Management System (QMS) and leads efforts to maintain certifications including ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, and Nadcap AS7117. This position interfaces regularly with customers, auditors, suppliers, senior leadership, and production teams to ensure product integrity, audit readiness, and customer satisfaction. Approximately 20% travel to the Salem, VA facility is required to support audits, system alignment, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Quality Management System Leadership Lead, develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, and Nadcap AS7117 requirements Serve as Management Representative for the QMS Establish, maintain, and communicate quality policies, procedures, standards, and objectives Promote a strong quality culture and continuous improvement mindset across both sites Multi-Site Quality Oversight (Wallingford, CT & Salem, VA) Provide quality leadership and system oversight for the Salem, VA facility Ensure consistent application of quality standards, procedures, and metrics across locations Support Salem quality staff with audits, corrective actions, training, and customer requirements Travel to Salem, VA (~20%) to support system alignment, audits, and improvement initiatives Audits & Compliance Plan, coordinate, and lead internal, external, Nadcap, and customer audits Prepare audit documentation and ensure organizational readiness Manage audit findings, non-conformances, and corrective/preventive actions to closure Issue Quality Alerts and ensure effective communication of quality issues and expectations Documentation & Specification Management Maintain the Quality Manual, SOPs, forms, and quality records Conduct annual reviews of quality documentation to ensure compliance with current standards Maintain a complete and current specification library for customer, regulatory, and internal requirements Ensure effective change management, communication, and employee training when specifications change Oversee contract review to ensure customer requirements are fully understood and met Process Control, Metrics & Continuous Improvement Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics including nonconformances, escapes, delivery performance, and customer complaints Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action initiatives Identify opportunities to reduce process variation and improve efficiency Provide clear, data-driven reporting and recommendations to senior management Supplier & Material Quality Maintain Approved Supplier List (ASL) and supplier qualification programs Ensure compliance of incoming materials and supplier certifications Manage supplier controls including surveys, evaluations, and criticality ratings Customer & External Interface Interface with customer quality systems and portals (Pratt & Whitney, GE, Rolls-Royce, NADCAP, NQA, etc.) Support new part and process qualification activities Maintain professional relationships with customer Quality and Purchasing teams Host and support customer audits, site visits, and quality system reviews Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Support Support EH&S policies, values, and initiatives Ensure compliance with all corporate, facility, and regulatory EH&S requirements Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physical Sciences, or equivalent experience 3–5+ years of Quality Assurance experience in a manufacturing environment Prior leadership or supervisory experience within Quality preferred Experience working with suppliers, customers, and contract manufacturers Technical Skills Strong working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and Nadcap quality systems Experience leading quality system audits and managing corrective actions Proficiency with quality metrics, statistical analysis, and trend reporting Familiarity with inspection, testing, and measurement methods Strong computer skills and ability to navigate customer and regulatory systems Core Competencies Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills High sense of urgency, accountability, and attention to detail Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing and shop floor environment Ability to travel approximately 20% to support multi-site quality operations Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work in both office and manufacturing environments Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout production areas Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Use of PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes Manufacturing environment with elevated noise levels in certain areas
