Description The Chaplain Resident will serve as a member of the health care team contributing to holistic patient and family centered care with an understanding of spiritual perspectives and the impact on coping, medical decision making, and health outcomes. As a learning and supervised member of our spiritual care team, the Chaplain Resident will be sensitive to the variety of faiths and practices to ensure competent, religiously appropriate, spiritual care is provided. The Chaplain Resident will also construct learning goals consistent with the Outcomes of Level I and Level II CPE as stated in the Standards of ACPE. Responsibilities Direct Patient Support/On-Call: o Work with the interdisciplinary health care team, providing information on how religion and spirituality impact coping, decision making, and health outcomes. o Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff in the palliative care setting. o Engage in active listening and empathetic presence to facilitate deep conversations about life, meaning, and values. o Facilitate rituals, prayers, and religious or spiritual practices based on individual preferences and beliefs. o Participating and support planning in memorial programs among patients, patient families, staff, and community. Staff Care: • Provide spiritual care to clinical caregivers in assigned areas of responsibility. • Support restorative measures to clinical caregivers and staff members with rounding, active listening and programmatic support. Education, Development and Program Participation: • Observe and consult with assigned mentor as needed throughout residency. • Construct leaning goals consistent with the Outcomes of Level I and Lieve II CPE as stated in the Standards of ACPE. Learning goals will be designed with feedback from CPE Educators, peers, and emerging self-awareness. • Prepare for, attend, and participate in individual and group supervision for all aspects of CPE program including induvial supervision sessions; verbatim sessions; Interpersonal Relations Group Sessions; Didactic sessions; and other curriculum items on the syllabus for the individual CPE unit. Documentation, Compliance and Ethical Practice: • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of spiritual care interventions and assessments in patient records. • Adhere to ethical guidelines and standards of practice for chaplains, respecting confidentiality, and privacy. • Stay informed about relevant legal and ethical considerations related to end-of-life care and advance care planning. • Comply with UC Health safety and departmental policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with all hospital regulatory and safety requirements. Qualifications Minimum Required: Master's Degree - Master of Divinity or Equivalent Graduate-level theological degree from a college, university, or theological school accredited by member of Council for Higher Education. Completion of 1 unit of CPE in ACPE accredited program. Ordained, current endorsement or recognized as a religious or spiritual leader with good standing within a specific faith tradition. Minimum Required: Required enrollment in an affiliated Clinical Pastoral Education Program.
