Description

Position Overview: The 1st Shift CNC Mill Programmer/Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision components used in the manufacturing and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to create accurate CNC programs and machine setups that meet specified tolerances and quality standards. Key responsibilities include tool selection, fixture setup, and the execution of efficient machining operations using G-code and CAM software. The CNC Mill Programmer/Operator performs in-process inspections, verifies part conformity using precision measuring instruments, and makes necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy throughout production. In addition to machining tasks, the position includes routine machine maintenance, monitoring tooling wear, and ensuring proper coolant and lubrication levels. Success in this role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a dedication to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment while consistently delivering high-quality components. Essential Duties: (Additional duties may be assigned as required.) CNC Mill Programmer Operator will produce machine parts by programming from drawings, setting up, and operating through part completion. CNC Mill Programmer Operator will write, store, and retrieve programs for machining parts. Plan machining time by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, and material specifications. Communicate any special tooling and stock tooling needed for machine/job. Read blueprints and operates and inspects jobs. Horizontal experience is a plus Calculates dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments. Machines parts to specifications using milling machines. shapers, and grinders. Measures, examines, and tests completed parts, checks for defects, and ensures conformance to specifications. Completes preventive maintenance on equipment as scheduled and maintains oil levels. CNC Mill Programmer Operator will perform regular in-process inspection of equipment. Performs regular inspection of tooling Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. CNC Mill Programmer will maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements and troubleshooting malfunctions. Notifies supervisors if there are any problems with the machine. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of G&M Code/Programming. Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Equipment: Micrometers Measuring tools Calipers Mazak experience is a plus Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities: Mechanically inclined Ability to read blueprints Ability to read tape measures Ability to make offsets and program changes when needed Ability to schedule jobs on machines within department as required Knowledge of creating /writing programs and troubleshooting machine errors Familiarity with all computerized numerical control tooling and methods of machining mills Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25+ pounds. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
