Job Summary
First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System is seeking to employ a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their Trauma team at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for per diem night shift coverage. The Trauma team includes nine (9) Trauma Surgeons and 20 Advanced Practice Providers to cover an ADC of 40-60 patients with seasonal fluctuations.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a CMS 5-Star rated hospital for overall quality. The only hospital in Florida and one of just 17 hospitals in the U.S. to receive the highest five-star rating in all reporting periods since the program’s inception in 2016. Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Sarasota recently went through its fifth consecutive Magnet recognition survey from the ANCC, the credentialing body of the American Nurses Association – a humbling achievement that fewer than 1% of the nation’s hospitals have attained.
Today, we are a full-service public health system , with two hospitals and a Cancer Institute offering specialized expertise in heart, vascular, cancer, orthopedic and neuroscience services, and a network of outpatient centers, urgent care centers, laboratories, diagnostic imaging and physician practices, skilled nursing and rehabilitation among our many programs. We are a Level II Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
Responsibilities include:
Shifts are 6:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M.
Trauma response in the Emergency Department, rounding in Surgical Trauma ICU and hospital floors.
PA-C will see patients in the general surgery and trauma acute care outpatient clinic and provide Surgical First Assist in the operating room for both elective, acute care, and traumatic surgical cases.
Ability to perform procedures including, but not limited to, placement and removal of chest tubes, arterial lines, and central venous catheters.
Requirements:
Current NCCPA or ANCC certification required and must also have an active license by the State of Florida by the time of hire.
Board Certified Physician Assistant, Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner who has active, relevant and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 500 acute care inpatient encounters over two years).
Board Certified Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner , who has active, relevant, and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 1,000 acute care inpatient encounters over two years).BLS required.
Two (2) years of current Critical Care APP experience required for consideration.

The PA IV Trauma is highly specialized in trauma services protocol. Typically works in multidisciplinary settings and units managing patient care. A PA is a graduate with a master's degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).
Required Qualifications
- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).- Require bachelor's degree from accredited physician assistant training program.- Require minimum of one (1) year experience or post graduate APP resident in cardiovascular/ cardiothoracic surgery.
