Job Summary
The International Student Success & Engagement Coordinator reports directly to the Director of International Enrollment and Services. The coordinator’s primary focus is to support the success, engagement, and retention of international students at East Tennessee State University. The coordinator provides services, programming, and targeted initiatives that promote student success and a positive overall experience for international students.
The coordinator serves as a key resource for international students, offering individualized support, referrals, and advocacy, and maintains an open-door approach to student engagement. In addition, the coordinator plans, coordinates, and implements international student orientation programs and oversees international summer programs and camps, ensuring a smooth transition and meaningful experiences for participants.
The coordinator implements and assesses student success and intervention strategies, collaborates with campus partners to strengthen community engagement, and contributes to the development of a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for international students throughout their time at ETSU.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and standard office technologies. Knowledge of best practices, trends, and support strategies for international student success. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, government agencies, and external stakeholders. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Ability to research, interpret, and analyze information to support decision-making and program effectiveness. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information and communications. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work. Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute programs and events. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse and cultural linguistics backgrounds
OR A combination of education and work experience Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and experience supporting student success, engagement, or retention initiatives in higher education Experience working with F-1 international students at the college level Experience planning and executing large-scale events or orientation programs Compensation & Benefits
