Overview
The Activity Director is responsible for planning, implementing and leading their assigned activity area in a small group setting. They are responsible for providing grade-level appropriate activities and incorporating the weekly theme to their activities.
This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.
Responsibilities
Provide instruction, supervision and safety of all campers, staff and volunteers in program area.
Plan and implement various age appropriate activities and ensure adequate supplies and resources are available.
Supervise and participate in all assigned aspects of the campers’ day which includes but is not limited to: camper check-in and check-out; meal times; activities and extended am and extended pm duties as assigned.
Attend and participate in two weeks of Leadership Staff Training and General Staff Training.
YMCA of the Pines has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of youth in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement.
This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all cases of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization.
An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.
Qualifications
This position requires the ability to lead and instruct a group of campers in their assigned activity area.
Must be 18 years of age or older
Have knowledge in safety, care of equipment, inventory, skill instruction, and progressive age appropriate programming.
Must be able to identify age and grade level characteristics of campers.
Previous camp experience or experience working with groups of children is preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel & bend (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
