Job Title: Family Engagement Facilitator Department: Human Services Reports To: Human Services Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: Serves as a liaison between family members, friends, members of the family’s faith community, professionals, and other identified parties necessary for Family Engagement Meetings. Provides support to children and family,  is solution-focused and skilled in keeping the focus on safety and permanency, engaging team members, assessing needs, facilitating the development of a plan, recording specific responsibilities of team members, and coordinating actions. Assists and encourages team members to share pertinent information related to the safety, well-being and permanence of the child. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or peripheral duties that may be required.  Rio Blanco County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. Independently analyzes complex situations and formulates plans and makes quick decisions as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to use a strength-based and solution-focused practice. Practices, effective strategies that result in effective engagement of families during the course of the case. Coordinates and facilitates meetings focused on permanency and best practice for families, staff and parties connected to the case. Locates and prepares the family, relatives, Guardian ad Litem, service providers, etc. for their role in the meeting and educates them on the purpose of the meeting. Mediates difficult interactions between the parties involved in the case. Uses diligent search techniques throughout the life of the case to locate family and kin of children. Enters information into a computer system or otherwise prepares, routine and non-routine reports utilizing a variety of software; receives, sorts, and summarizes material for the preparation of reports; prepares work reports; relays and interprets administrative decisions, and instructions. Provides direct customer service at the front desk and answers the phone.  Provides information and referral services to both the public and other agency staff. Case management and support activities for foster homes, respite care providers and kinship homes with monthly on-site check-ins and reporting and documenting activities regarding the status of the child in the home. Caseworker will work with Case Aides in Request and gathering all documentation and conduct any additional background information, gather training certificates and training records, ICPC home studies, provide paperwork to the potential new foster homes Conduct home studies for foster homes and kinship homes. This includes home studies for ICPC requests from other states or counties. Provide a training program partnership with Project 1.27 that will qualify for the certification requirements for foster homes, respite providers and certified kinship homes. This program will also provide ongoing training. Maintains records and completes required paperwork and evaluations. Participate in various committees and boards related to program activities and responsibilities. Greets customers, answers phones and answers general Human Services questions. Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for the performance of the job. Case management and support activities for foster homes, respite care providers and kinship homes with monthly on-site check-ins and reporting and documenting activities regarding the status of the child in the home. Assist foster home participants in obtaining and maintaining appropriate certification to be a certified foster home for Rio Blanco County. OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives requests for assistance, complaints, suggestions, etc., and handles or refers requests to appropriate staff members Serves as a liaison and/or members of various committees/teams and collaborate, persuades, presents reports to negotiate/network with others outside own work area to coordinate efforts and maintain cooperative and efficient relations Attends and makes presentations at community forums and task force meetings Performs other duties as assigned JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge Knowledge in individual, group, and family dynamics Knowledge in cultural issues Knowledge in domestic violence Knowledge in community agencies, organizations, and resources Knowledge in internal departmental policies and procedures Skills Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary Teaching/facilitating classes and/or programs Interviewing clients Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines Researching, compiling, and summarizing a variety of informational and statistical data and materials All computer applications and hardware related to the performance of these essential functions of the job Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimum direction Applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; understand, interpret, and communicate complicated policies, procedures, and protocols Communicating orally with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff to give and receive information in a courteous manner De-escalation and limit setting Operating and routine maintenance of general office machines such as copiers, fax machines, and telephone systems Abilities Ability to communicate clearly, facilitate a group Ability to engage children and families in the planning process Ability to set limits, utilize a strengths based approach Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, etc. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Ability to analyze and resolve problems involving several variables Ability to deal with angry and hostile clients Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
