Description

Department Overview The Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) at OHSU is a multidisciplinary research center focused on the development of magnetic resonance (MR)-based imaging techniques to advance basic and clinical research. This position is 100% on-site and no remote-work is possible. Function/Duties of Position This position functions in the role of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist in the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC). The MRI Technologist preforms MRI examinations following protocols under the supervision of the department Director. The MRI Technologist promotes OHSU's mission statement by delivering high quality, efficient service to facilitate magnetic resonance research to OHSU and the community. This position helps to create a collaborative environment by integrating education, research, and clinical leadership. The MRI Technologist works with infants, pediatric, adult, and geriatric research subjects. Operate Siemens MRI instruments for clinical research study scans. Ensure subject safety by reviewing MRI screening forms and discussing with study team and subjects before initiating scans. Administer MRI contrast agent per research protocol. Manage data storage and transfer. Assist in developing research protocols for AIRC faculty and the user community. Perform quality assurance scans and test protocols on the AIRC instruments to assess MRI instrument performance. Clean, disinfect, or sterilize facility areas and equipment. Ensure that all areas meet clinical standards, implement standard infection control procedures and that areas are well-organized, clean, and presentable. Maintains code-cart logging and manages updates. Interface with OHSU clinical support units to make sure clean/dirty linens are handled, clinical supplies are stocked (linens, scrubs, contrast, injector kits, IV prep materials, etc.), code-carts are properly logged and updated, and POC instruments/operations are acceptable. Perform basic MRI troubleshooting and scheduling service appointments with contracted Siemens engineers when instruments issues arise. Provide training and MRI screening for OHSU employees, volunteers, external users, and other individuals that may be entering AIRC MRI areas. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Graduate of an approved magnetic resonance imaging course that meets current qualifications to apply for and take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) board exam in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) upon hire. Must be ARRT (MR) certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, or ARMRIT American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists within 6 months of hire. Must be licensed by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging within 6 months of hire. BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation. Ability to speak clearly and demonstrate patience with research subject needs. Use of computers, phones, and copy machines. Must have ability to stand, assist, and move (transfer) research subjects. Must have and maintain knowledge in the understanding of cross-sectional anatomy. Must have the ability to make independent decisions regarding research subject care and the completeness and appropriateness of the exams ordered. Preferred Qualifications Formal training program with completed range of documented or demonstrated technical competencies that include at least 6 months of full-time clinical experience in MRI. Experience running research protocols on MR instruments. Experience working with research subjects and/or patients with limited mobility, progressed disease, and/or cognitive deficits. Additional Details This position works in a busy environment with multiple demands, and continuous interaction with research subjects, other medical professionals, principal investigators and research staff. It requires being exposed to noise, chemical solutions, and occupational exposure to human tissue/fluids. Benefits Healthcare for full-time employees covered 100% and 88% for dependents. $50K of term life insurance provided at no cost to the employee. Two separate above market pension plans to choose from. Vacation - up to 200 hours per year dependent on length of service. Sick Leave - up to 96 hours per year. 9 paid holidays per year.
