Your Opportunity We are seeking an Environmental Scientist/Technician to join our growing Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team in Yellowknife, NT. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of and lead the execution of site investigation and remediation field projects in the Northwest Territories, as well as the occasional travel across Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Under the leadership of outstanding project managers, this opportunity allows you to be a part of a cohesive and highly skilled team of environmental professionals. Your Key Responsibilities Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health and Safety Program. Create and lead a positive safety culture on all projects. Work with Project Managers and intermediate staff to coordinate field scopes of work with Stantec staff and subcontractors. Complete SIR field tasks including but not limited to, Phase I ESA site visits, soil sampling, groundwater monitoring and sampling, soil vapour sampling, aquifer conductivity testing, and elevation surveying. Confidently oversee SIR field activities, including but not limited to, drilling and monitoring well installation, remedial excavations, and other construction tasks. Provide training and mentoring to more junior staff as field lead. Write technical reports including data analysis and interpretation within NWT Tier 1 and Tier 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines. Collaborate with site supervisors and subcontractors to efficiently execute SIR field programs. Perform data analysis for inclusion in reports. The successful candidate must reside in Yellowknife, NT or be willing to relocate to Yellowknife, NT. Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials Dedicated to working safely within established procedures and protocols. Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, a love of the outdoors, attention to detail, succinct writing ability, and ability to multitask. Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions. Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products. Additional skills such as current First Aid training, WHMIS, H2S Alive, UTV operator training, water and soils sampling, mechanical aptitude and experience in the field of Environmental Science or Engineering are assets but are not required.  Able to obtain federal reliability security clearance. Passion for working in an outdoor environment. Able to travel to remote locations via air or ground transportation and work up to 12 hours per day. Able to travel and mobilize to sites on minimal notice. Able to work up to 100% in the field during peak field season, including out of town work and overnight stays in hotels or a camp setting. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or diploma in environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or related field. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Eligibility to obtain or currently pursuing a recognized professional designation (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Chem, P.Ag., etc.) an asset. Consulting or related industry experience is an asset. Experience working in outdoor environments. This position will involve a combination of field and office work. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Fieldwork may include travel (road or air) and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Evening and weekend work may be required. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
