Stantec’s Integrated Water Management Group is a multi-disciplinary team of water professionals that engages water as an interconnected system with unique but related functions and responsibilities, deeply embedded in questions of the social and political, and best managed at hydrologic scales. As part of the broader Water group, our team plays a vital role in advancing water planning through strategic, collaborative, and community-focused efforts. By combining meaningful engagement with technical expertise, we deliver innovative and practical consulting solutions for clients across local, regional, state, and federal levels.
Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Pasadena office is seeking a Public Policy and Engagement Consultan t to join our team working on integrated water management and safe drinking water projects throughout California. This is a role for a talented and entrepreneurial individual with experience focused on multi-party collaborative processes, community outreach and engagement, and water resources planning and management. The selected candidate will join a team of integrated water management and public affairs specialists, as well as community water planners and community-engaged engineers, each committed to delivering sound and strategic consulting services to a range of local, regional, state, and federal clients.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Join and participate with inter-disciplinary teams on water resources projects throughout California and the western U.S.
Support planning and assessments for water supply, drought, sanitation, flood control, and environmental restoration projects.
Assist small and at-risk drinking water systems with effective governance and management in service to their communities, and in identifying and implementing long-term solutions to drinking water challenges.
Prepare educational resources with specific learning objectives, instructional materials, and content focused on water and environmental topics, and tailored to various audiences and communities based on their needs, learning styles, and most used language.
Assist in preparation of presentations for client exhibits, in-person and online community engagement events, public presentations, and plan documents for online and hard copy publication.
Assist community members, clients, project managers, project engineers and staff, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors on project deliverables.
Perform project coordination including preparation of draft facilitation plans, progress reports, and general information gathering.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
At least six years of experience supporting communities with engagement, education, and decision-making related to water, natural resources, utilities, or similar. Bachelor's degree in environmental management, political science, public relations or communications, water resources planning, city and regional planning/urban planning, environmental science, or related field; master’s degree preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to adapt to different audiences. Strong interpersonal and entrepreneurial abilities and a proven track record for working independently as well as part of a diverse team of staff, clients, and interested parties. Experience in the following subject matter areas preferred, but not required: California water resources; policy; government affairs Environmental communication (spoken and written) with diverse audiences; community outreach and engagement Integrated water resources planning and management (e.g., surface water, groundwater, and recycled water supply projects; drought planning; flood management) California Native American Tribes, environmental justice, and disadvantaged communities. Experience in the following areas is preferred, but not required: Technical writing and editing of complex integrated water resource programs and projects. Research and analysis skills with qualitative and quantitative data relevant to community planning and design. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
