Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Development, the Career Development Specialist will advise and provide guidance to undergraduate, graduate, and recent alumni through one-on-one appointments, drop-ins, and facilitated group sessions. Will educate Iona students on career readiness by designing, developing and delivering career workshops and presentations for specific student populations. Cultivates and maintains employer relationships and facilitates employer engagement on-campus. Provides administrative support to the office and all major career programming events.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide individual and group career coaching in assigned areas. Coach students and alumni in the career decision-making process and assist clients in clarifying goals needed to achieve career plans. Administer and interpret career assessment instruments to assist students in identifying and selecting career fields. Coach students in developing effective job search strategies targeting their career fields. Remain current on industry trends in assigned career fields. Instruct students and alumni on the use of online career resources
2. Develop and implement programming for students in assigned career areas, including workshops, presentations, and industry talks on topics such as self-assessment, career exploration, researching employers and occupations, identifying employment opportunities, job search strategies, professional/leadership development, college-to-career preparation, and graduate/professional school application process. Market programs to campus partners in coordination with the Career Centers communication plan. Conduct program assessment and provide regular reports on student participation, workshop learning outcomes and other success metrics. Routinely evaluate program offerings to ensure all phases of the career development process are addressed. Research and develop career-related materials for print, web, and electronic media.
3.Develop relationships with campus stakeholders (students, faculty, academic advisors, student organizations, and other campus offices) to deliver information and programming to assigned career areas. Maintain consistent communication (phone, email, meetings, and social media) with stakeholders in assigned areas to market and promote employment opportunities, technology resources, career trends and educational programming. Collaborate with the Career Center staff to host recruiting events, identify employment opportunities, and develop employer partnerships.
4.Serve as a Career Center liaison to one or more special interest groups on campus outside of assigned academic areas (i.e., student-athletes, performing arts, academic clubs). Participate in campus-wide programs including but not limited to Student Leadership Training, First-Year Orientation, Open Houses, Admissions events, and Parents and Alumni Weekend. Participate in Student Life professional development activities.
Qualifications
Knowledge:
A dynamic professional demeanor with exceptional organizational, written and public speaking skills.
Knowledge of career development theory and effective career coaching techniques. Career Coaching certificate preferred but not required.
Proficient with MS Office, databases, assessment tools (polling and surveys), design programs, and social media. Previous experience with a career service management (CSM) system preferred.
Knowledge of effective teaching methods with the ability to identify and achieve student learning outcomes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrates the ability to work with diverse populations and serves as an advocate for equal access
