Description Regional One Health is currently seeking a Lead Pharmacy Technician (Certified) for our Bartlett Specialty Midtown location at 1588 Union. Must have National Certification such as PTCB or NHA AND TN Pharmacy Tech License to qualify. JOB SUMMARY Assists registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense specialty medications as defined by Regional One Health standards. Performs various duties related to specialty pharmacy services including, but not limited to, maintaining patient records and documentation, preparing and processing prescriptions, answering telephone calls, communicating with patients, payors and healthcare providers, inventory management, benefit investigations, prior authorizations, patient assistance, prescription delivery and distribution, and record-keeping of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. . Collorabates with Lead Pharmacist and/or Manager to manage daily workflow profiency. Able to provide targeted feedback to coach technicians to improve efficiency and address technician concerns in an appropriate manner. Key Job Responsibilities Essential Function Provides assistance and performs technical pharmacy services under minimal supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Packages and appropriately labels all dosage forms used in the pharmacy by using appropriate pharmacy packaging, counting and labeling equipment. Documents medication orders. Coordinates medication delivery and distribution. Maintains required prescription/medication and other department records. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain clinical competency as required to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and clinical services. Maintain and service all pharmacy automated dispensing devices in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Prepares and fills prescriptions and medication orders, maintaining appropriate legal and departmental records; computes records, patient charges and credits patients for unused drugs. Reads physician’s prescribed medication orders specifying name, quantity, strength, frequency, and method of administration of drugs and other pharmaceutical products. Processes prescription orders in designated pharmacy workflow software following workflow standards and policies and procedures Operates computerized data systems. Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Utilizes computer and related equipment to enter and retrieve information. Utilizes the pharmacy workflow system, clinical platform and the EMR to process prescription orders, document patient records, and maintain records required by law and accrediting agencies. Maintains and updates records regarding the patient’s health, allergies, demographic and insurance information in the pharmacy system. Essential Function Maintains a safe and orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the pharmacy and maintains a clean and neat work area. Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner Cleans and maintains all pharmacy related equipment. Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor. Assists in inventory control including ordering stock rotation and return of outdated medications. Oversee daily FOA ordering Ensures automation contains the correct medication to promote operational efficiency Assist with returns to reverse distributor Ensures that out of dates are pulled and segregated as mandated in ROH policy Ensures all recalls are handled according to ROH policy Monitors and maintains on hand quantities Works effectively and serves as intermediary between patient, provider, and pharmacy; Interacts and communicates in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. Initiate patient intake process Answers the phone in a professional and friendly manner Refers any clinical questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to the pharmacist Stay informed on currently availability of, and assisting patients with copayment assistance methods Navigate insurance plans and accurately bill the appropriate insurance including coordination of benefits. Assist with obtaining Prior Authorizations Assist with the preparation and delivery of infusion orders Perform monthly outbound patient calls to set up refills and coordinate delivery Responds to customer/patient inquiries and issues timely Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment to minimize risk to patients and staff by complying with all safety/risk management policies and procedures. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities. Provides support to pharmacy and other ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation and supervision of students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training. Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuous pharmacy coverage as required. Provides guidance, mentoring, and back up for the other technicians and assists the Pharmacy manager or lead pharmacist with assignment of work, training, and mentoring as needed to maintain efficient patient care. Provide targeted feedback to coach technicians to improve efficiency and address technician concerns in an appropriate manner, develop and implement training for new initiatives and programs, assist manager/lead with scheduling, assist lead/manager in implementing new programs and workflows and monitoring for success Complies with all policies and procedure's in accordance with specialty pharmacy accreditation standards. In addition the Lead Specialty Pharmacy Technician performs the following responsibility: Essential Function Responds to customer/patient inquiries. Assists in the supervision of technician workflows to optimize efficiency and productivity. Participates in hiring process of new technicians and staff pharmacists. Provides actionable feedback and follow-up on performance with other technicians. Assists lead pharmacist or pharmacy managers in preparing schedule for technicians. Engages in pharmacy quality improvement projects. Coaches Premier Expectations, Behaviors, and Etiquette for all inpatient technicians. Ensures returned medications are credited and restocked on a daily basis. Assists with inventory management as needed. Manages workflow along with Lead Pharmacist.
