Train the next generation of lifeguards and help build safer, stronger communities through hands-on instruction and leadership.</p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Purpose</strong></p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the American Red Cross instructor is responsible for the instruction, leadership, supervision, control, and safety of all class participants. The instructor is responsible for the appearance, presentation, and working order of all materials and equipment used for American Red Cross course instruction. It is the instructor&#39;s responsibility to observe and direct all class participants and to provide feedback and appropriate correction as instructed or included in the job description.</p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</strong></p>\n\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<li>Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods, and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR programs.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to adapt your teaching approach to match the experience and abilities of the participants.</li>\n\t<li>Organizes and directs activities of assigned participants to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.</li>\n\t<li>Ensures that all class students are registered and on the class roster prior to beginning class.</li>\n\t<li>For blended learning courses, ensure that all students complete required online learning prior to beginning in-person course segments.</li>\n\t<li>Resolves simple public complaints in matters related to instruction and refers other complaints to the supervisor.</li>\n\t<li>Enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.</li>\n\t<li>Helps organize and assists in the development of special programs, activities, or instruction.</li>\n\t<li>Completes and submits records and documentation of completed classes to the Aquatics supervisor and the American Red Cross office.</li>\n\t<li>Works with the Aquatics supervisor on an ongoing basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective American Red Cross courses.</li>\n\t<li>Must successfully administer at least one full Lifeguard course under the direct supervision of an Aquatics Director/Coordinator or an experienced instructor before leading a class independently.</li>\n\t<li>Performs related duties as required.</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Staff Development:</strong></p>\n\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<li>Must act and represent the YMCA in a positive and professional manner</li>\n\t<li>Maintain outstanding aquatic skills and proficiency.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to communicate effectively with adults.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible.</li>\n\t<li>Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings for all areas necessary.</li>\n\t<li>Maintain communication with other Aquatics Team members and your supervisors.</li>\n\t<li>Communicate clear and concise information to students, parents, and guardians.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to be a team player.</li>\n</ul>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Criteria for Success:</strong></p>\n\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n\t<li>Ability to put an emphasis on critical life-saving skills.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to control a classroom and give constructive feedback.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to empower participants so they can be confident in rescue skills.</li>\n\t<li>Foreseeing difficulties in training materials and taking steps to minimize them before participants begin the course.</li>\n\t<li>Ensuring that there are lifeguards on duty during training.</li>\n\t<li>Know how to use course materials and training equipment safely and effectively.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to inform participants about knowledge and skill evaluation procedures and course completing requirements.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to submit the required course documents according to Red Cross procedural guidelines within the specified time frame.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to participants.</li>\n\t<li>Ability to display a positive attitude toward all participants and YMCA staff.</li>\n\t<li>Arrives prepared and on time for work and consistently demonstrates service excellence.</li>\n</ul>\n",
