Description

Description Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology, 60% teaching, 30% research and 10% service. We are seeking a broadly trained marine ecologist with a specialty in soft bottom ecology, aquaculture of economically important shellfish, or other applicable field, and with a passion for teaching undergraduate students. The successful candidate will incorporate frequent field trips to a variety of local marine environments into their courses, develop working relationships with regional non-profits, work closely with research centers and departments across the University of Maine, and contribute to the research funding enterprise of UMaine Machias. UMaine Machias, the regional campus of the University of Maine, is situated on the beautiful northeast coast of Maine, minutes from marine habitats and the Downeast Institute, UMaine Machias’s Marine Field Station, a world class shellfish aquaculture facility and business incubator. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 3 or 4 courses a year, and serve as the director of our Marine Field Station, actively pursuing research grants. The director will also be expected to develop internships, research opportunities and courses for our students that promote partnerships with DEI. The teaching load could include Shellfish Mariculture, Marine Biology, Ichthyology, Plankton Ecology, Genetics, other courses that support the Marine Biology and Integrated Biology programs. Established in 1909, it is the easternmost university campus in the United States, located on the Gulf of Maine and surrounded by rivers, forests, fishing villages, and blueberry barrens.
