The Benefits Consultant Generalist steps into a <strong>high-impact, high-variety environment</strong>, providing critical coverage across leave administration, retirement counseling, and onboarding/offboarding support. </p>\n<p>If you’re someone who enjoys <strong>owning complex cases, navigating nuanced policies, and being a trusted resource for employees during pivotal life moments</strong>, this role offers both breadth and depth. You’ll play a key role in ensuring timely, compliant, and people-centered benefits support in a fast-paced university environment serving more than 4,000 employees. </p>\n<p><strong>Your Contribution Will Likely Include:</strong> </p>\n<p><strong>Leave of Absence (30%)</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Guide employees through leave options, eligibility, and benefits with clarity and empathy </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Review applications and medical documentation to determine eligibility and ensure compliance </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Manage casework, including documentation, system entries, and communications </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Partner with Employee Relations on complex or sensitive situations </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Monitor case data, reporting, and timekeeping accuracy </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Retirement (30%)</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Advise employees on retirement options including TSERS, ORP, phased retirement, and incentive programs </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Provide guidance on retiree benefits such as healthcare, Medicare, and supplemental retirement plans (403(b), 457(b), NC 401(k)) </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Process retirement documentation and ensure timely, accurate completion </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Support complex calculations, reporting, and educational presentations </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Onboarding / Offboarding (30%)</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Deliver benefits orientations and consultations for new, transferring, and departing employees </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Support benefits enrollment and ensure compliance with required retirement elections </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Guide employees through separation-related benefits including COBRA and portability options </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Monitor and process separation actions, deductions, and exception requests </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Support reduction in force (RIF) actions and retirement-related transitions </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Benefits Support (10%)</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Respond to high-volume HR inquiries through service channels </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Interpret policies and collaborate with internal stakeholders </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Support process improvements and maintain documentation </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Assist with life events processing, open enrollment, and special projects </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Experience You Will Bring:</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s degree in a related field <strong>and 2+ years of HR benefits experience</strong>, or an equivalent combination of education and experience </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Strong working knowledge of benefits administration, including leave, retirement, and employee lifecycle support </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Advanced Excel skills and comfort working across HR systems </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to manage high-volume, time-sensitive work with strong attention to detail </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Broad experience across benefits functions (leave, retirement, onboarding/offboarding) </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Experience in public sector or higher education environments </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>What's in it for you: https://hr.charlotte.edu/benefits/benefits-overview/</strong> </p>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>Salary Range: $61,000 – $66,000</strong> </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Comprehensive benefits package including health, retirement plans, and paid time off </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Opportunity to work in a <strong>hybrid environment</strong> with flexibility </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>A role with meaningful impact supporting employees at critical moments in their careers and lives </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Equal Opportunity Employer:</strong> </p>\n<p>UNC Charlotte is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
