The Department of Public Safety at the University of Southern Maine is hiring! Join our team as a Police Officer . The Department of Public Safety has a strong commitment to the community policing and problem-solving philosophy. This is a 40 hour per week position on a schedule that is determined by unit seniority and shift bid, with overtime opportunities. Starting rate is $27.86/hour if not certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, or 28.63/hour if certified, plus shift and specialty differentials. Lateral entry pay may be considered for exceptionally qualified certified police officers.
Police Officers report to the shift Sergeant and are responsible for the day-to-day law enforcement, community policing and security service delivery for the assigned shift. Officers are often tasked with solving complex community problems or conducting all aspects of investigations.

Qualifications
Preference will be given to those with a Full-Time Law Enforcement certification from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (certified out of state candidates may be considered for a waiver); Maine Pre-Service Law Enforcement academy candidates may also be considered.
Required:
High School diploma or GED
Ability to be certified as a Maine law enforcement officer
Valid Class C Maine driver’s license
At least one year of law enforcement or related experience
