GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs grounds maintenance work involving caring for and maintaining the appearance of grounds, gardens, and exterior areas of buildings, and maintaining and caring for groundskeeping tools, supplies, and equipmen t . ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Mows and trims grass. Prepares ground for planting. Trims, waters, removes, and plants trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operates powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning shears . Removes dirt, rubbish, and refuse from grounds. Cleans groundskeeping tools , equipment, and supplies. services, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on groundskeeping equipment. Drives trucks to pick up or haul materials, supplies, and dirt. Mixes, sprays or spreads fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, flowers, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders. Inspects for pests and diseases and takes steps for their eradication. Facilitates the set-up of events on the grounds. Paint various locations and items on campus. Will be required to travel up to 10% of the time. Performs related work as assigned. GROUNDSKEEPER II: Performs moderately complex journey-level) grounds and building maintenance work. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
