Description

What We Are Looking For As a Senior Development Quality Engineer, you will act as the lead quality engineer and technical authority on our most complex new product development and contract manufacturing programs for aerospace, industrial, and semiconductor applications. You will own customer-facing quality relationships, set inspection strategy from engineering definition through production, and drive programs to completion through disciplined project management and structured problem solving. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports; you will lead through technical authority, influence, and mentorship. The role reports to the Development Quality Engineering Manager. We’re seeking someone who doesn’t just ensure quality—but elevates it—bringing curiosity, leadership, and a drive to leave every program better than they found it. Hybrid Schedule This role has a hybrid work schedule requiring the person to be onsite 3 days a week. What’s In It for You! Competitive Compensation Package: $90,000 - $125,000 per year. Our employees are the best part of our company. We want you to feel valued, appreciated, and included. Because of this, we make sure your hard work is recognized. Paid Leave (US ONLY): Enjoy time away from work with Company paid holidays and a flexible working schedule through our paid time off (PTO) policy.  Yep, you read that correctly. We are a Company that values you and makes sure you take time for yourself. 401(k): Prepare for a secure retirement with our 401k plan, which includes an employer matching contribution. Comprehensive Health & Wellness Plans: We offer a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage, company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance, as well as company-paid basic life insurance that supports you during your career with us. We believe that taking care of our employees is essential, and these benefits reflect our commitment to your health, security, and peace of mind. Global Team: With our state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in Rock Hill, South Carolina, our global team operates across more than 13 countries worldwide. Experience a workplace comprised of talented individuals who are passionate about serving our customers and each other. Innovative Culture: Innovation is at the heart of what we do! Since our founding in 1986 by Chuck Hull, the inventor of 3D printing, we have continuously pushed the boundaries of what is possible with additive manufacturing. When you join 3D, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology in an innovative and collaborative culture! Talent Development: At 3D Systems, we invest in talent programs to support employees with opportunities to grow, contribute, develop, and thrive in their careers. Connection & Engagement Opportunities: We strive to cultivate an environment where our diverse global workforce can connect and thrive. Our Employee Resource Group program, Employee Recognition program, and 3D Gives Back program, are just a few examples of how you will be empowered to build connections, celebrate wins, and make a meaningful impact. What You Will Do Serve as the lead quality engineer and technical authority on key contract manufacturing programs, planning quality deliverables against program milestones and driving schedule, risk, and stakeholder communication to keep programs on track. Perform contract and purchase order reviews, and interpret and ensure the flow-down of customer, regulatory, and engineering requirements into internal processes, supplier requirements, and inspection plans. Apply strong GD&T expertise (ASME Y14.5) to interpret engineering drawings and product manufacturing information (PMI), identify critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics, and establish inspection methods, plans, and acceptance criteria based on those GD&T CTQs. Own First Article Inspection in accordance with AS9102, including documentation, bubbled drawings, and disposition. Lead measurement systems analysis (MSA/Gage R&R) and establish statistical process control (SPC) and process capability monitoring (Cpk/Ppk) for critical characteristics. Own APQP/PPAP deliverables (per AS9145 or equivalent) for key programs, coordinating cross-functional teams through each phase. Serve as the senior quality voice to customers, owning quality agreements, change control, and escalations, and leading or hosting customer and regulatory audits. Lead complex root cause and corrective action efforts (8D/RCCA) on systemic non-conformances, and implement and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Define, track, and drive cost-of-poor-quality (CoPQ) metrics, using them to prioritize improvement efforts. Develop, execute, and oversee risk management activities, including process and design risk assessments (PFMEA/DFMEA) and risk mitigation strategies. Influence product and process design for inspectability and manufacturability, and help transition programs from development infrastructure into true production. Provide technical mentorship and coaching to junior Development Quality Engineers as a technical authority. Assist in supplier quality management, source inspection, and supplier audits to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components. Maintain accurate quality documentation, including design history files, risk management files, and inspection and test records. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality standards, such as AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, AS9102, and AS9145, and other relevant standards for regulated and high-reliability manufacturing. Continuously monitor industry trends and regulatory updates to stay current with best practices and compliance.
