Description

Description:  Educate students about the fundamental concepts of music theory such as rhythm, melody, pitch, and tempo. Conduct exercises like vocalization, harmonizing, singing, and playing musical instruments. They may also lead rehearsals in preparation for the school's musical performances. Reports to:  Principal and/or other Supervisor Job type:  Full time Classification:  Exempt  Calendar Type:  Academic (Calendar 1) QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Missouri teacher certificate for the appropriate level is preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Assess the progress of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations. Develop classroom rules and maintain order in a fair and just manner. Be available to the students and parents for education-related purposes. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads. Participate in district and campus staff development. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues. Prepare and submit lesson plans in a timely manner in the platform the school utilizes. Maintain a minimum number of grades in the grade book in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to organize special programs for assigned campus. Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone. Ability to analyze data. Ability to use effective public speaking skills and problem-solving skills. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Work: may require occasional light lifting. Nights and weekend activities may be required. Position is in classroom setting and requires intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Moderate travel is required.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements, physical demands, work conditions and environment listed above are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
