Description
The Radiology Assistant is responsible for transporting patients to and from the Radiology Department, ensuring their comfort and safety while in transit. This includes using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds for non-ambulatory patients and escorting ambulatory patients as needed. Additionally, they assist radiologic technologists with workflow tasks, such as retrieving contrast media from the Omnicell, loading CT injectors, and preparing necessary forms for patient procedures. The role also involves performing other duties as assigned to ensure efficient patient care in the Radiology Department.
Essential Functions
Safely transport patients to and from the Radiology Department using appropriate methods such as wheelchair, stretcher, or bed. Provide assistance and escort ambulatory patients to ensure they arrive safely at their designated location within the Radiology Department. Help prepare patients for radiology procedures by ensuring they are in the proper position and that relevant forms are completed and available. Retrieve necessary contrast agents from the Omnicell system, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in preparation for imaging procedures where applicable. Assist technologists by loading and preparing CT injectors, ensuring that the proper contrast is used for patient imaging. Ensure that all forms and documents related to the patient’s procedure are filled out accurately and ready for the technologist to use. Ensure that patients are comfortable and reassured during transport and preparation for imaging procedures. Observe patients for any changes in condition during transport and notify medical staff immediately if there are concerns. Help technologists by entering or updating relevant patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, as directed. Perform other related duties as assigned by the department or healthcare team, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Imaging Department.
