The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners.</span> <br></span></em></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Lato', sans-serif; text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SUMMARY OF POSITION: </span></span></p>\n<p><span>The Industrial Safety Instructor develops and teaches Industrial Safety courses within the Vocational Education and Workforce Development division of the Academic Affairs department. These courses will include, but are not limited to, 40-HR HAZWOPER, 8-HR HAZWOPER Refresher CPR/First Aid w/AED, and OSHA 30 General Industry.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </strong></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.</span></li>\n<li><span>Maintains cooperative working relations with key partners to manage and enhance services to local, regional, statewide, and international partners.  </span></li>\n<li><span>Participates in the development of and contributes to the quality of College-level curriculum in the area of study.</span></li>\n<li><span>Evaluates student performance and submits appropriate grades, documentation, and reports.</span></li>\n<li><span>Completes reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.</span></li>\n<li><span>Participates in professional development, as appropriate.</span></li>\n<li><span>Periodically travels throughout the North Slope Borough at all times of the year.</span></li>\n<li><span>Actively participates in College and community service including serving on community and task forces, participating in College activities, curriculum planning, professional development, and assisting in the budgeting of assigned programs.</span></li>\n<li><span>Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.                                                       </span></li>\n<li><span>Performs other related duties as assigned.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif; text-decoration: underline\"><strong>KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:</strong></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.</span></li>\n<li><span>Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.</span></li>\n<li><span>Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.</span></li>\n<li><span>Ability to travel throughout the North Slope community via plane </span></li>\n<li><span>Good computer skills, including MS Word and Power Point.</span></li>\n<li><span>Excellent oral and written communication skills.</span></li>\n<li><span>Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment, including working with various cultural organizations and community cultural experts.</span></li>\n<li><span>Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.</span></li>\n<li><span>Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.</span></li>\n<li><span>Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.</span></li>\n<li><span>Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.</span></li>\n<li><span>Ability to support Ilisagvik College’s mission.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE [Required]:</strong></span></span><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>High school diploma or equivalent.</span></li>\n<li><span>Ability to teach HAZWOPER and CRP/First Aid w/AED classes</span></li>\n<li><span>A minimum of 3 years teaching experience or equivalent experience in the field.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:</span></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in industrial safety, environmental science, or related fields.</span></li>\n<li><span>National certification [i.e. CET, CSP, CHCM, CHMM, etc.].</span></li>\n<li><span>HMTRI trained.</span></li>\n<li><span>Construction (29 CFR 1926) and General (29 CFR 1910) Industry safety-related experience.</span></li>\n<li><span>OSHA 500 and 501 authorized instructor. </span></li>\n<li><span>DOT, and/or RCRA and/or EPA experience.</span></li>\n<li><span>Hazardous waste site and or spill site work experience.</span></li>\n<li><span>Valid driver’s license. </span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: </strong></span></span><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif\">The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
