Description
This role supports Church Public Affairs and Reputation Management, helping lead the Church’s global efforts to understand, influence, and strengthen its reputation across media, digital platforms, and public discourse.
The position understands social listening, influencer engagement, digital strategy, and rapid response communications, and is able to work with and present to the highest levels of Church leadership.
The role exists to:
Strengthening trust and understanding of the Church worldwide Anticipate and respond to reputation risks and opportunities Build and manage strategic relationships that influence public perception
Represent the Church with clarity, accuracy, and Christlike tone in complex or sensitive situations
Position is in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Requires in-office attendance.
Responsibilities
1. Reputation Intelligence & Social Listening
Oversee systems and strategies to monitor global conversation about the Church across media, social platforms, and emerging channels Analyze sentiment, themes, risks, and opportunities; translate insights into actionable recommendations Identify and track emerging issues, narratives, and misinformation trends 2. Strategic Communications & Response
Lead drafting and approval processes for official Church statements, messaging, and media responses Ensure responses reflect doctrine, tone, and leadership direction while addressing real-world concerns effectively Coordinate rapid response efforts for issues, crises, and sensitive topics 3. Public Affairs & External Relations
Build and maintain relationships with media, organizations, and key stakeholders that influence reputation Represent the Church in meetings, coalitions, and public-facing opportunities as assigned Support alignment with broader Public Affairs efforts, including government, policy, and international relationships where relevant 4. Executive Representation & Leadership Support
Act as a trusted proxy for the Director of Reputation Management in internal and external settings Present insights, strategies, and recommendations to executive committees and senior Church leadership Help set vision, priorities, and direction for the reputation management function 5. Issue & Crisis Management
Lead cross-functional coordination during reputational challenges Develop frameworks for managing ongoing issues, sub-issues, and narrative shifts Ensure consistency and alignment across departments and global teams
Qualifications
Required:
Degree in public relations, international relations, government affairs, political science and/or related field or experience. Significant experience in public relations, communications, or reputation management; minimum 10 years relevant experience Deep understanding of media ecosystems, digital platforms, and public discourse Proven ability to draft high-level communications and represent an organization publicly Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills under pressure Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
Preferred:
Related graduate degree and/or experience Experience with social listening tools, analytics, and digital strategy (SEO, content ecosystems) Experience managing complex or global reputation issues Familiarity with Church doctrine, structure, leadership, and communication tone

Sound judgment and discretion in sensitive situations Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels Strong alignment with Church mission and values Calm, credible, and confident presence with senior leaders and external stakeholders Adaptability in a fast-moving media and digital environment
