The Safewalk Coordinator supports the operations of Safewalk, a free volunteer-operated accompaniment service on campus that ensures students, staff, faculty, and community members arrive safely at their destination. Operating since the 1990s, The University of Alberta Students’ Unions Safewalk Service is one of largest volunteer-based walk-home services in Canada, boasting over 100 dedicated volunteers and operating Monday - Friday night, the Safewalk service will walk you anywhere on North Campus, aswell as Campus Saint-Jean, and we’ll even take the LRT with you! </span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">The Safewalk Coordinator plays an integral role in the operations of the Safewalk service and is responsible alongside the Program lead - Safewalk for the recruitment, interviewing, training, evaluation and (most importantly!) appreciation of Volunteers within the service. This position allows for involvement in volunteer management, event hosting, policy creation, and assessment of the service.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">The Coordinator position is a </span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">~10 month position with a planned start date of July 6th 2026 and ending on April 30th 2027. </span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">This position works </span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">full time at 37.5 hours per week throughout the summer and school year. </span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">During the summer months the Coordinator is expected to work standard business hours, while in the school year the Coordinator will work </span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">late afternoon through to late evening</span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\"> in order to coincide and assist with Safewalk operations as needed, exact times are flexible dependent on the candidates schedule. If you are a part-time student or a student enrolled in morning classes and interested in working full time this is the role for you!</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">About the University of Alberta Students Union</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">The University of Alberta Students Union (UASU) is the official student-run organization for undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. We aim to improve your experience as a student, through the services, events and spaces that we provide. We also provide advocacy on your behalf within the university community and to all levels of government. </span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Core Duties of the Safewalk Coordinator</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Management of the Safewalk Volunteer program including recruitment, training, evaluation, appreciation, and supervision. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Undergo patroller and dispatch training to understand the operations of Safewalk and its radio system.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Ensure Safewalk operations are consistently delivered, including filling both patroller and dispatch shifts if needed.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Facilitate Safewalk Advisory Team (Senior Volunteer) meetings and coordinating the senior volunteer team projects and monthly meetings</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Assist with development of project plans for Safewalk</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Update and organize the volunteer registry, google drive, and scheduling software (Better Impact)</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Maintain up to date service usage data</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Other duties as assigned by the Program Lead - Safewal</span><br></li>\n</ol>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Minimum Qualifications</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">All applications will be considered but preference will be given to an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at the University of Alberta and enrolled in at least one course in each of the fall 2026 and winter 2027 academic terms. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">General understanding of the University of Alberta and University of Alberta Students’ Union</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Eligible to work in Canada (Including students who are in Canada on a study Permit)</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">The Ability to work on-site at our offices at the University of Alberta’s North Campus.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Availability to work varying hours, including all weekday evenings from approximately 3:00pm/4:00pm - 11:00pm/12:00pm as needed and the occasional weekend during the school year. </span></li>\n</ol>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Preferred Qualifications</span></p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Previous experience volunteering with Safewalk.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Demonstrated ability to effectively employ interpersonal skills </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Demonstrated ability to manage stressful or complex situations</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Ability to deal effectively with Students’ Union and University of Alberta Staff Members in a professional and personal manner</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Proficiency with Macintosh computers and with Google Drive software</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Previous experience volunteering or working with a crisis intervention organization</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Previous experience in volunteer management and training</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Previous experience in public speaking, facilitation, and training</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Previous experience in event planning, management, and logistics</span></li>\n</ol>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Application Instructions</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Only complete applications received through Bamboo HR will be considered.
