Description

Company Overview: MP Materials (NYSE: MP) is rebuilding American industrial capability for a new era of autonomy, robotics, and electrification. We are the only U.S. company with a fully integrated rare earth supply chain—from mining and refining to advanced metal and magnet manufacturing. Our products include both the critical materials used to make permanent magnets and the finished magnets themselves—enabling next-generation technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, transportation, defense, and energy systems. These materials are the foundation of physical AI—the convergence of computation, movement, and control. We hire ambitious, mission-driven people who want to tackle complex challenges and shape the future of strategic industries. Our culture is rooted in teamwork, resiliency, and integrity, with a deep commitment to operational excellence and national purpose. MP is rapidly evolving from a materials producer into a leading U.S. manufacturer—and our people are driving that transformation. Position Overview: MP Materials is seeking a dynamic and experienced Applications Engineer to join our Magnetics business located in Fort Worth, TX. The Applications Engineer is a customer-facing position with deep technical understanding of permanent magnet applications. In addition to responding to requests from current and prospective customers, the successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying current and future product value by synthesizing customer needs and market trends. This is an opportunity to be a critical interface between customers and our work to redefine American magnet manufacturing. Position Responsibilities: Be a subject matter expert on the application of NdFeB magnets to electrical devices. Act as technical contact with existing and potential customers by reviewing requests for quotes and other information, and providing clear, summarized responses. Interpret customer requests into well-defined product requirements and negotiate these requirements with customers to best serve their needs while promoting MP Materials' products. Synthesize and communicate short and long duration customer project goals, including coordinating with the Magnet Technology team to deliver samples and prototypes to customers. Identify value added opportunities for MP Materials products, to be realized through applications engineering, product or process development, continuous improvement activities, and/or long-term strategic initiatives. Monitor and report on the impact of implemented improvements, including KPIs such as energy savings, cost reductions, system uptime, and process optimization. Deliver technical training and documentation to operations staff, ensuring consistent understanding of electrical system enhancements and energy efficiency practices. Ensure all electrical OPEX and improvement projects comply with applicable codes, safety regulations, and internal quality standards. Basic Qualifications: BS or higher in Materials, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or other relevant disciplines. Working knowledge of rare earth magnets and/or permanent magnet motors, actuators, and sensors including end use applications and key performance metrics. Experience working directly with customers to understand technical needs and translate them into magnet specifications and magnetic components. Experience partnering with commercial teams to generate product specifications and quotations. Understanding of the cost, yield and quality of manufactured product(s). Ability to effectively communicate with a spectrum of different roles, from customers to senior leaders to manufacturing operators. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare well-written documents for reporting to customers and senior leadership. Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects. Desired Qualities: Experience with material manufacturing, particularly NdFeB magnet manufacturing. Familiarity with rare earth permanent magnet grades and magnetic properties. Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or materials science. MP Materials is Proud to be an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer - EEO is The Law. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Underrepresented groups/Women/Disabled/Veterans are encouraged to apply. Candidates whose disabilities make them unable to meet the position’s requirements will still be considered qualified if they can perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodation. Your Right to Work – In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment verification document form upon hire.
