Description

Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity from qualified applicants. The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community, and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with National Center of Academic Excellence (NCAE) guidelines as well as the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, and the Computer Science program in accordance with the evolving needs of the STEM division. The successful candidate will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses using current technologies, software, and tools. The highest priority topics of relevance for expertise in teaching are cybersecurity fundamentals, network security, and application security. Knowledge of incident response and forensics, penetration testing, security operations, emerging technologies and trends, and information security management is preferred. Teaching, advising, and mentoring are also expected to support students’ growth in technical interviewing, writing, and project management within the Cybersecurity domain. The successful candidate will employ these areas of expertise toward the purpose of the Cybersecurity program, which is to provide a cybersecurity generalist foundation on which learners can narrow their focus moving forward in their careers, further education, and/or continuing professional learning. The ideal applicant will possess a strong understanding of the critical role community colleges play in workforce development and in facilitating seamless transfer pathways to four-year institutions, ensuring student success in higher education and career advancement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to collaboration and professional development. The successful candidate will help the Computer Science department and specifically the Cybersecurity program develop relevant courses and teaching strategies for students with varied interests and learning styles to support student recruitment and retention. The Cybersecurity faculty member is responsible for maintaining their certification to fulfill the ongoing needs of this position. Courses may be held in the classroom at the Wellesley campus (in-person), in the hybrid (with in-person lab session) or online environment. However, the candidate must be able to teach on campus as most classes are taught in-person on campus or hybrid. The candidate will have the opportunity to shape the curriculum and engage in recruitment of underrepresented students as well as community-based outreach activities using the College’s state-of-the-art Cyber Range. Key Responsibilities and Duties: Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Cybersecurity courses based on the need for each semester, which may include, but are not limited to the list found online in the academic catalog; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Work and collaborate effectively with a varied student body, faculty, and staff; Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet course and program requirements and student learning outcomes; Serve as academic advisor to students, with expertise in advising and mentoring minoritized students; Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week; Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, designations, accreditation, articulation, and assessment of courses and programs; Collaborate on selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, and demonstrations that utilize a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities; Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates; Serve on College committees as elected or appointed; Attend program, division, and committee meetings; Assist the program and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct faculty as needed; Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning; Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This list is not to be considered all-inclusive. A supervisor may assign other duties as required to meet the needs and foster the mission of the College.
