The Opportunity:
Canadian Natural is seeking a Stakeholder Relations Advisor to support stakeholder engagement aligned with regulatory requirements, environmental performance, and corporate sustainability objectives. This role partners closely with regulatory, environmental, operations, and Indigenous relations teams to help build and maintain relationships with regulators, Indigenous communities, and other external stakeholders, while supporting environmental and regulatory processes related to energy development.
The ideal candidate is a flexible and adaptable individual with a basic understanding of environmental and regulatory processes, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), provincial and federal regulatory applications, public and stakeholder consultation requirements, and surface land activities. They are eager to learn, willing to be mentored and coached, and able to take direction and run with it in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. With a developing knowledge of regulatory frameworks, they support regulatory submissions and bring a respectful, team-oriented approach to engaging with Indigenous communities. Strong communication, sound judgment, relationship-building skills, and a willingness to travel as needed will support success in this role.
Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta
Eligible for bussing to and from site
Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10-hour shifts (Monday - Thursday)*
Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies to support regulatory applications, environmental approvals, and project development activities
Build and maintain constructive relationships with regulators, indigenous communities, municipalities, industry groups, and other external stakeholders, and represent Canadian Natural at open houses, meetings, and external engagement forums as required
Support environmental and regulatory processes, including:
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
Provincial and federal regulatory applications
Public and stakeholder consultation requirements
Surface land activities
Coordinate and document consultation activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements, while ensuring compliance with requirements set out in long-term agreements with external stakeholders responsible for stewardship
Identify, assess, and manage stakeholder issues and risks related to environmental, regulatory, and operational activities
Prepare briefing materials, presentations, consultation summaries, and correspondence for internal and external audiences
Collaborate with internal technical teams (environment, regulatory, operations, legal) to align messaging and address concerns
Monitor external issues, emerging regulations, and stakeholder trends that may impact Canadian Natural’s operations
What You Bring to the Role:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field
5+ years of experience in stakeholder relations, regulatory affairs, or environmental management or experience with indigenous communities including governance and protocols
Strong understanding of:
Alberta and/or federal environmental and energy regulatory frameworks
Environmental assessment and permitting processes
Stakeholder and public engagement best practices
