Description
Description
Are you as excited as we are when we talk about the storage and distribution of bulk liquids at our state-of-the-art tank containers and terminals in key markets? Join us as an Environmental Superintendent .
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the terminal operates in full compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations and site-specific permits. You will act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and customers on environmental matters, overseeing critical compliance functions such as permitting, reporting, incident notification, and the management of key environmental programs. Your work will be central to maintaining high environmental standards, supporting audits and inspections, and helping the business proactively manage environmental risks.
Stolthaven Terminals, a division of Stolt Nielsen Limited (SNL), is the specialist storage provider of bulk liquids. Chemicals, clean petroleum, gases, vegetable oils, biofuels, and oleochemicals. Our mission is to be the most respected global storage provider, delivering safe, high-quality, sustainable storage and handling solutions for our customers around the world.
What you will be doing
As Environmental Superintendent, you will oversee the terminal’s environmental compliance programs on a day-to-day basis, ensuring all operations adhere to Federal, State, and local regulations as well as site-specific permits. You will work closely with the Environmental, Quality & Compliance Manager, operations teams, and commercial colleagues to interpret regulatory requirements, develop compliance plans, and support decision-making on product acceptance and operational activities. A key part of your day will involve preparing and submitting mandatory reports, maintaining detailed environmental records, and managing the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program, including inspection, monitoring, and follow-up on repairs. You will also coordinate and execute release notifications related to tank cleaning, degassing, maintenance, flare operations, and unplanned spills or releases, ensuring timely and transparent communication with relevant authorities. In addition, you will engage with government regulators, consultants, industry peers, and customers, representing the company in inspections, audits, and customer meetings, and serving as the subject matter expert on environmental issues. You will stay current with evolving environmental regulations by attending conferences, seminars, and courses, and by reviewing relevant publications, bringing back insights that support continuous improvement of the terminal’s environmental performance. Your work environment will blend office-based analytical and reporting tasks with close collaboration with terminal operations, using various environmental software tools and release models to support robust environmental stewardship.
Key responsibilities
Act as the main company representative when dealing with regulatory agencies at all levels – Federal, State, and local, maintaining ongoing communication, responding to requests for information, and representing the company during inspections or audits. Lead the implementation of all applicable environmental regulations and manage site-specific permits to ensure continuous compliance, including tracking and analyzing new regulations, obtaining permits, developing compliance plans, and ensuring all regulatory requirements (such as NSR, Title V, etc.) are fulfilled. Prepare and submit reports as required by regulatory agencies, and meticulously maintain records including written and non-written communications, incident logs, compliance documentation, and reports on operations such as tank cleaning, degassing, flare operations, and spill events. Manage the terminal’s Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program through regular inspection, monitoring, and ensuring repairs are completed promptly to minimize environmental impact and maintain compliance. Make appropriate release notifications for tank cleaning/degassing, maintenance, flare operations, and unplanned spills or releases, ensuring incident reporting is immediate and transparent to relevant authorities. Stay aware of environmental regulation changes and associated developments by attending conferences, seminars, courses, and by meeting with consultants, industry peers, trade associations, vendors, and through regular review of environmental publications. Accept or deny customer storage products offered to the terminal based on environmental risk assessments and regulatory compliance considerations. Serve as the subject matter expert for all environmental issues discussed with customers or auditors, preparing necessary written documentation, reports, and communications for customer meetings and audits.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science/Natural Science, or related area required. Minimum 8 years work experience in the environmental field is required, with actual experience in air quality issues and environmental permitting preferred. Broad-based computer skills. Experience with various environmental-related software and release models preferred (e.g., EPA, Tanks 4, ALOHA, STEERS, regAction, Cority, etc.). Strong analytical and technical skills. Ability to work overtime as necessary.
What we offer
Opportunities for continuous professional development. The chance to work as the key subject matter expert on environmental compliance, with direct exposure to regulators, customers, and senior stakeholders, enabling strong career progression within Stolthaven and the wider Stolt-Nielsen group. A collaborative and safety-focused work environment where you partner closely with operations, quality, and commercial teams to drive high environmental and operational standards. Involvement in complex and impactful projects such as permit strategy, LDAR optimization, emission reduction initiatives, and process improvements that enhance the terminal’s environmental performance. Access to modern environmental tools and systems, including specialized environmental software and release models, to support data-driven decision-making. A values-driven culture where environmental stewardship, regulatory integrity, and continuous improvement are at the core of business decisions.
