Explore opportunities with us and help improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Group: Utility Infrastructure  </strong></p>\n<p><strong>Position: Project Engineer</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Location: Indianapolis, IN </strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The Project Engineer position includes design, analysis, and construction document preparation for a variety of water, wastewater and stormwater projects including, but not limited to: water distribution, pumping stations, finished water storage, wastewater collection, lift stations, water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, green infrastructure, and utility relocation projects. Tasks include master planning, preparation of design drawings, specifications, calculations, permitting, construction administration and technical writing. Other responsibilities may include presentations and client communication. Project Engineers work under the direction and mentoring of Project Managers and Technical Directors.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><strong>Technical</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Perform all aspects of utility infrastructure design tasks</li>\n <li>Assist Project Manager with other technical tasks as may be assigned</li>\n <li>Correctly interpret regulatory requirements and related technical materials</li>\n <li>Independently perform design calculations</li>\n <li>Independently perform product research and evaluation</li>\n <li>Identify project design issues and obtain assistance in resolving them</li>\n <li>Possess ability to think ‘outside the box’ with innovative ideas to provide solutions to clients</li>\n <li>Possess a thorough understanding of Utility Infrastructure Group Standards</li>\n <li>Prepare construction documents in accordance with Utility Infrastructure Group drafting standards</li>\n <li>Develop exhibits and design drawings</li>\n <li>Develop job-specific details for unique conditions</li>\n <li>Develop technical specifications</li>\n <li>Other duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Construction Administration</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assist in resolution of construction-related problems as quickly as possible</li>\n <li>Respond to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors during construction</li>\n <li>Perform field observation site visits (accompanied by Project Managers as appropriate), and write field reports</li>\n <li>Review construction submittals for conformance to the project design documents and organize and maintain logs and files thereof</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Quality Assurance</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Maintain design book, correspondence documentation and electronic files for each project</li>\n <li>Review the final design drawings and computations prepared by Staff Engineers and Technicians for completeness and accuracy prior to every submittal</li>\n <li>Review work that is performed by other departments and/or subconsultants for compatibility with utility design elements</li>\n <li>Prepare markups and guiding CAD technicians for the purpose of generating construction documents in accordance with drafting standards</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Report quality assurance deficiencies to the Project Manager</li>\n <li>Assist in preparation of standard specifications, design details and calculations<strong> </strong></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Communication/Management:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Be responsive to all Project Manager and Client requests</li>\n <li>Establish a detailed project design task list for each project submittal stage</li>\n <li>Keep Project Managers informed on status of work</li>\n <li>Attend project meetings to coordinate design requirements with clients and other disciplines (independently as appropriate)</li>\n <li>Coordinate design requirements with other project disciplines (Survey, Geotechnical, Architecture, Civil, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing, Manufacturers, etc.)</li>\n <li>Practice upward and downward delegation</li>\n <li>Manage Tasks (under the supervision of Project Managers as appropriate)</li>\n <li>Break down complex design and analysis tasks into “first principals” of engineering</li>\n <li>Train, mentor, and provide direct hands-on assistance to teach new design elements, procedures, calculations, documentation, and plan preparation techniques to Staff Engineers and Technicians</li>\n <li>Serve as technical representative of firm at all required project meetings, presentations, and public hearings</li>\n <li>Interface with clients through project work and professional organizations and community service</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or related field</li>\n <li>Indiana Professional Engineering license, or ability to obtain within six months after employment</li>\n <li>Registered engineer with 4+ years diversified Utility Infrastructure experience (up to 1 year of graduate school can be considered as part of the years of relevant experience)</li>\n <li>Project experience with water, wastewater, storm water, green infrastructure, local municipal and public utilities</li>\n <li>Involvement in professional organizations such as WEF, AWWA, ASCE, etc.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Travel: </strong>Occasional day trips to project sites and client meetings</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Field Work: </strong>Occasional site assessment, field measurements, construction observation</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Physical Demands:</strong></p>\n<p>The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
