Description Position Summary: The Sewing Instructor will provide comprehensive sewing instruction to individuals served teaching valuable skills that can aid in their rehabilitation and reintegration into society for the Red Tent Women's Initiative program. The instructor will develop and deliver a curriculum tailored to the unique environment and needs of the jail system and out of jail community settings, fostering a supportive and safe learning environment. This position is ambulatory working in different jails or established community jail diversion facilities as cleared and assigned. Essential Job Functions: Teach sewing classes and creation of projects to individuals served, covering a range of skills from basic to advanced sewing techniques. Demonstrate techniques and provide hands-on assistance to participants. Adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles and skill levels within the population. Develop and prepare lesson plans and instructional materials as appropriate for setting. Create projects that teach various sewing techniques and skills, with a focus on practical and employable skills. Update curriculum as needed to incorporate new techniques and trends, ensuring relevance and applicability. Maintain a safe, secure, and organized classroom environment in accordance with facility protocols. Assist team to manage class schedules and student attendance, ensuring compliance with facility protocols. Ensure all students have access to necessary materials and equipment, adhering to facility protocols. Provide individual support and feedback to individuals served, encouraging skill development and project completion. Foster a positive and respectful learning environment, promoting personal growth and resiliency. Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and completed projects. Coordinate the order and maintain program supplies and equipment that comply with security protocols. Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation Completes all orientation and mandated training activities, including E-Learning Courses, within required timeframes, and in accordance with the criteria established for this position. Perform any other duties as assigned. Qualifications Essential Qualifications: Certifications/Licensures: None Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Experience and Competencies: Excellent sewing skills, including knowledge of various techniques and equipment. Ability to remain reliable in punctuality and attendance, adhering to Westcare attendance and timekeeping policies Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Understanding and application of federal, state, local and agency confidentiality rules and professional standards of conduct Understanding of professional ethics, consumer rights, and professional responsibilities Demonstrates ability to work effectively with culturally diverse staff and individuals served. Demonstrates respect for an individual’s cultural and ethnic values when interacting with staff and consumers Articulates a working definition of trauma Understands the impact of trauma Understands re-traumatization Ability to create a safe, welcoming physical, supportive, and relational environment for consumers and staff Knowledge of WestCare Mission, goals and values Knowledge of Incident Reporting Knowledge of HIPAA, Professional Ethics, Consumer Rights and Confidentiality. Familiarity with WestCare services and programs Demonstrates a high degree of dependability. Maintains a good attendance record. Observes working hours Shows flexibility and is responsive to requests from supervisor Works independently with minimal supervision Exhibits characteristics of good workmanship, and integrity on the job Work time is always productive Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, co-workers, external partners, and regulatory agencies Is courteous to consumers, staff, and all others. Demonstrates tact at the appropriate time. Cooperates with others both within and outside WestCare. Works well with supervisor; accepts direction and supervision Maintains a positive attitude toward work Ensures and maintains a safe working environment. Work area is clean and orderly. Verbalizes, understands and adheres to agency safety procedures. Demonstrates appropriate use of Unusual Incident Reports, in accordance with the Center’s reporting procedures Presents a positive personal image Dresses and maintains a professional demeanor. During your tenure with WestCare, there may be new requirements, including, but not limited to vaccinations that are issued by local, State, Federal, and/or Funders that WestCare may have to comply with. Should this occur Human Resources or appropriate personnel will inform you. Working Conditions: Classes are conducted within the jail, correctional facility, or out of jail community center, adhering to all security and safety protocols.
