Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Provide direct academic support services for students with special needs including evaluation as well development and implementation of Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs). Consult, plan and collaborate with classroom teachers, support providers and other staff members to provide academic and behavioral support for students with special needs and struggling learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
E ssential Functions
Provide direct and consultative academic support services for students with special needs according to their Individualized Educational Program (IEP)
Develop lesson plans that meet the needs of each assigned students
Consult, co-plan, co-teach and collaborate with general education classroom teachers.
Deliver lessons and model/provide differentiated instruction for students with special needs and struggling learners within the general education classroom, pulled-out into the Learning Center or in a self-contained setting
Assist classroom teachers with implementation of accommodations and modifications for students with special needs fully included in the general education setting according to their IEP
Create and maintain a print rich room environment including student work aligned with students’ goals/benchmarks displayed and evaluated
Conduct academic evaluations using standardized, alternative, curriculum-based and informal assessments, and interpret results
Write academic assessment reports and present findings to IEP team
Develop IEP goals and recommend appropriate services, accommodations and/or modifications for students based on their individual needs
Manage student caseload; schedule and participate in IEP meetings
Complete weekly student service logs and submit to supervisor at least monthly
Regularly monitor student progress using data collection; report progress to teachers and parents
Complete IEP documents in preparation for IEP meetings utilizing the on-line IEP system
Comply with special education laws, policies and procedures
Participate in Coordination of Services Team, and Student Support and Progress Team meetings
Perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions and adapt to frequent changes in the work environment
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers, students, and parents
Provide support and oversee Special Education Paraprofessionals who are working in an academic role.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
E ducation
An earned Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Certifications Required:
First Aid and CPR certificate
Added Authorization in Autism Spectrum certificate (if holder of Prelim/Clear credential), or enrollment in course(s) required for the AAAS certificate (if an Intern)
Desirable E x perience:
Bi-lingual in Spanish/English
Experience in a Special Education setting
C r edentials Required:
A valid Preliminary or Clear (or Level or Level 2) California Education Specialist Instruction Credential, Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe OR
Education Specialist Instruction (M/M or M/S) Intern Eligibility through an accredited University/County education program and continued enrollment in that program.
A valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with English Learner authorization
K NOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of the fundamental principles and accepted practices of a special educator, including:
Ability to utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the varied needs of students.
Understanding of developmentally appropriate curriculum and how to adapt the curriculum to meet student needs.
Knowledge of a variety of assessment instruments and interpretation of assessment results.
Knowledge of special education procedures, law, regulations and guidelines.
Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic
groups.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time.
Ability to work collaboratively with school site personnel and parents.
Ability to accept construction criticism and direction from supervisors.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school/district staff both
individually and as a group.
Ability to compose and comprehend written communication.
Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft word.
Mobility to traverse all areas of work sites.
Ability to travel to other sites/locations (if needed).
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:
This position may include long periods of sitting or standing in an environment with moderate noise levels, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. This position is frequently required to stand, sit or walk, use hands and fingers and reach with arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read printed materials and a computer screen with ability to adjust focus.
Communication skills required by this job include the ability to hear and speak.
Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes, and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries items that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.
The position requires the ability to travel by train, plane, or other means both inside and outside of the Los Angeles area.
May have occasional exposure to irate parents, staff, and public and private representatives.

SIGNING BONUS NOTICE : This position is eligible for a signing bonus, paid for in two installments in January and July. Eligibility for each installment requires active employment with ISANA on the payment date. Signing bonuses may be prorated based on start date or unpaid leave status and are subject to applicable taxes. Employees who separate from ISANA prior to the end of a bonus period will not be eligible for that installment.
PAY RANGE NOTICE: The posted pay range represents the full range for this classified position. Final placement is contingent upon verification of prior experience through completion of the required Verification of Experience (VOE) form. Credit for prior experience requires having worked at least 85% of the applicable employment period.
