Each student, guided by the Learning Specialist ,is expected to achieve at a high academic and personal level, according to his/her potential. The </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The Learning Specialist/Special Education Teacher is a member of the school’s Special Programs instructional staff and Academic Unit. Please note : The position may require supporting student’s both  in/person and virtually.</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">The Learning Specialist /SPED teacher is a 10-month position.  Typical working hours are Monday-Friday  8:00am-4:30pm .</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\"><br></span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">Essential Functions &amp; Accountabilities:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Develops solid knowledge of the Montessori Learning Standards,  Curriculum &amp; CCSS Maps, Scope and Sequence and all other grade-level curriculum in each content area taught, including the essential information, concepts and skills so as to better support students and assist classroom teachers. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Prepares and submits to the Director of Special Programs and Principal weekly lesson plans.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> Uses Special Programs Data System to create documents and complete all case-management tasks in compliance with IDEA and OSSE laws and regulations.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Co-plans and differentiates instruction as needed (in content, process, product, and environment).</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In cooperation with classroom Guides/Teachers, and Director of Special Programs  creates an individualized educational pla(IEP) for each student requiring special needs support. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> Implements each student’s IEP in the inclusion special needs setting, and in support of and in cooperation with the classroom Guide/Teacher(s).</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Assists teachers in classrooms to help adjust, modify, and enrich curricular approaches and improve pedagogy.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Collect data to monitor and document student progress.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Works in conjunction with SSMA Principal ( and or designee)  to recommend tutors, psychoeducational evaluators, etc.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Implements the school’s strategic plan for ongoing prevention, intervention and remediation in our PreK3-6th grade program. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Seeks out new and innovative curricula, texts, and technological applications for implementation in our classrooms </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Assists with the testing of  incoming students  and current students with IEPs and 504 plans</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Meets with the appropriate teacher(s)  and the Principal ( and/or designee) to ensure the easy and comfortable assimilation of all new students. </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Remains current with accepted and appropriate instructional theory, practice and research. Including engaging in regular and strategic professional development to advance the role of the Special Education Teacher Learning Specialist (including local and national seminars and conferences). </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Provides skillful classroom management practices (routines and procedures) to ensure a safe, orderly, positive, enjoyable, and productive learning environment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Uses formative and summative assessment and documents student progress and achievement; assesses and analyzes student strengths and needs; designs and implements appropriate instruction to facilitate learning and growth. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Establishes and maintains frequent communication with parents about their child’s academic, social, and emotional progress and needs. This includes Report Cards, phone calls, Class Newsletters,, email blasts, etc. Makes recommendations for home interventions </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Attends meetings and collaborates with the Principal (and/or designer)  to ensure compliance for all assigned students receiving Specialized/Special Programs  Instruction.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Gives input to teachers regarding student progress  and Report Cards as deemed appropriate and necessary. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Attends and participates in weekly faculty meetings, committee meetings, school functions, and professional development activities during and after school hours as needed, appropriate, and assigned. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Uphold the philosophy, principles, policies, and procedures of Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Represents Shining Stars Montessori  Academy positively in the school community and the wider community.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Adheres to strict student confidentiality. </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Performs other tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Principal and Director of Education. </span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">highly preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold\">MUST</span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> hold a valid teacher’s license/certification  in special education or be eligible to qualify for one in the District of Columbia </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Advanced credentials (e.g., BCBA certification, reading specialist endorsement, or equivalent) strongly preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Passing PRAXIS score preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Demonstrated knowledge of adaptive and assistive technology and evidence-based instructional practices for students with diverse learning needs.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Proven ability to administer, interpret, and analyze formal and informal assessments, such as ASQ, Brigance, Wilson, Woodcock-Johnson, Ortho-Gillingham, and similar tools.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Demonstrated data literacy and ability to use assessment outcomes  to inform instruction, progress monitoring, and IEP development.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Minimum of 2–4 years of successful experience as a special education teacher in a public, public charter, or Montessori school setting preferred.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Experience developing and implementing IEPs for students with moderate to severe learning, emotional, or behavioral disabilities </span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;
