These systems process real time market data, support public facing web applications, and operate continuously in an environment where reliability and uptime matter.\n\nYou'll work closely with our leadership team while enjoying a high degree of autonomy, flexibility, and influence. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, takes pride in system ownership, and prefers a hands on environment where decisions can be made quickly.\n\nAs part of our succession planning efforts, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow into the primary technical leadership role for the organization.\n\n What You'll Do \n\nSoftware Development & System Ownership\n\n Design, develop, maintain, and support critical software systems that power Stockwatch's products and services.\n Maintain and enhance real time market data processing systems handling millions of transactions daily.\n Develop new features and enhancements for public facing websites and services.\n Maintain existing web applications, backend services, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.\n Identify opportunities to modernize, improve, and streamline existing systems.\n\nDatabase & Infrastructure Management\n\n Manage and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments, including performance tuning, replication, configuration, and troubleshooting.\n Monitor and maintain high volume data processing systems.\n Diagnose and resolve production issues, performance bottlenecks, and system failures.\n Participate in planning and implementation of infrastructure upgrades and improvements.\n\nOperational Support\n\n Ensure the reliability and stability of business critical systems.\n Assist with troubleshooting and resolving service interruptions when they occur.\n Work closely with operations staff and external technology partners.\n Support integrations with exchanges, news providers, payment processors, and other third party services.\n\nTechnical Leadership\n\n Help establish technical priorities and roadmap recommendations.\n Provide guidance on architecture, technology choices, and future development initiatives.\n Contribute to long term succession planning and technical continuity.\n\n Working Environment \n\n Permanent, full time position.\n Downtown Vancouver office with flexible hybrid work arrangements.\n Flexible working hours focused on outcomes rather than strict schedules.\n Occasional after hours availability required to address critical production issues.\n Very occasional evening or weekend work for maintenance and system upgrades.\n Easy access to SkyTrain, Pacific Centre, fitness facilities, and secure bicycle storage.\n\n Requirements\n\n What We're Looking For \n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.\n 5 8 years of professional software development experience.\n Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including both development and administration.\n Strong C development experience.\n C++ development experience.\n Experience developing and maintaining web applications in Microsoft technologies.\n Experience working within Microsoft Visual Studio.\n Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.\n Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.\n Comfortable working in a small, entrepreneurial environment with limited bureaucracy and significant autonomy.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n Experience with ASP.NET, Razor, Blazor, JavaScript, and modern web technologies.\n Experience with Windows TCP/UDP socket programming and multicast data distribution.\n Experience administering Windows Server environments.\n Experience with PowerShell and Perl scripting.\n Experience integrating with cloud services and APIs.\n Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services.\n Experience working with real time, high volume, or mission critical systems.\n Knowledge of financial markets, market data systems, or investment platforms\n\n Benefits\n\n Why Join Stockwatch? \n\n Significant autonomy and ownership.\n Opportunity to become the primary technical leader within the organization.\n Small team where your contributions have a direct impact.\n Complex, interesting technical challenges involving real time market data systems.\n Flexible work arrangements and work life balance.\n Established, profitable business with a loyal customer base and decades of industry credibility.\n\n Compensation \n\n Salary: $110,000 – $150,000 annually\n Flexible working arrangements to fit your lifestyle\n\nOur salary ranges are informed by comprehensive market data and are designed to reflect the skills, experience, and responsibilities required for the role, while also providing room for future growth and development.
