The minimum and maximum salary for the I is $21.01 - $28.43. The minimum and maximum salary for the II is $23.18 - $31.37. </p>\n<h2>Job Description</h2>\n<p>Johnson County Wastewater (JCW) is responsible for the safe collection, transportation and treatment of wastewater generated by our community. Our work ensures that our lakes, rivers, and streams remain free from disease-causing pathogens and pollutants that are harmful to public health and the environment. Johnson County Wastewater is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Maintenance Specialist.  This position works in a team environment to support the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility as well as the off-site pump stations.  They will also support the electrical maintenance and install needs at other locations as needed.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This is the job responsibilities for a Wastewater Crew Member I: </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Inspects and documents plant and pump station processes to ensure proper operations and detect common equipment failures by reading and interpreting information provided by the SCADA system, visual observations of tanks and tests, and other instrumentation; monitors telemetry equipment to identify alarms during heavy rain events and emergency operations; carries on-call duty phone or pager to respond to alarms and other needs during off hours; works weekend shifts either independently for more routine operation functions or with other crew members when more advanced operations or maintenance functions are needed.</li>\n <li>Performs specific laboratory analysis for compliance by collecting samples and using standard methods and techniques; performs microscopic examination of samples for types and quantities of micro-organisms.</li>\n <li>Under direct supervision, assists in performing preventative and general maintenance on assigned equipment by adjusting and troubleshooting a variety of complex pumps, valves, motors and other equipment required to maintain appropriate operations; assists with the repair or replacement of a variety of piping and other infrastructure or equipment.</li>\n <li>Maintains and updates operational and maintenance records, logs and databases; performs and records routine mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities.</li>\n <li>Works with the public and other customers by assisting haulers/tankers, delivery drivers, and vendors/contractors; responds to routine questions and complaints from the general public and escalates more complex requests, questions, or concerns.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Wastewater Crew Member II Responsibilities, in addition to the above:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Leads projects in coordination with other crew members; carries on-call duty phone or pager to respond to alarms and other needs during off hours; works weekend shifts either independently or with other crew members.</li>\n <li>Analyze specific laboratory analysis for compliance by collecting samples with standard methods and techniques and performs both routine and more complex microscopic examination of samples for types and quantities of micro-organisms; implements operational adjustments to correct process failures.</li>\n <li>Provides guidance and training to other staff on operational functions and more routine maintenance tasks; responds to emergencies and rain/overflow events; serves as the lead on a variety of projects or complex tasks by directing and coordinating the work of other employees.</li>\n <li>Assists with preventative and general maintenance on equipment by adjusting and troubleshooting pumps, valves, motors and other equipment required to maintain appropriate operations; assists with repair and replacement of a variety of piping and other infrastructure and equipment.</li>\n <li>Research alternative processes, products, and equipment; may purchase supplies, equipment, parts, and other items needed in the operations and maintenance of the facilities; may be responsible for developing periodic reports or providing data to supervisors.</li>\n <li>Assists with treatment plant tours; responds to technical questions and complaints from the general public and notifies supervisor of complaint and actions taken; escalates more complex questions and concerns; works with vendors, contractors and suppliers to assure the appropriate quality of service or product; leads and collaborates with consultants, vendors, and contractors on improvements and other projects.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Job Requirements</h2>\n<p><strong><u>Minimum Job Requirements for Wastewater Crew Member I: </u></strong></p>\n<p>High school diploma or equivalent; one year of experience in a mechanical, maintenance, or vocational trade such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a science field in the areas of biology, microbiology, or chemistry; a driver’s license; and an acceptable driving record are required.</p>\n<p><strong><em>Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.  Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.</em></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Minimum Job Requirements for Wastewater Crew Member II:</u></em></strong></p>\n<p>High school diploma or equivalent; three years of experience in a mechanical, maintenance, or vocational trade such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a science field in the areas of biology, microbiology, or chemistry with at least two years in wastewater or water system operation, maintenance, cleaning, inspection, or repair; a driver’s license; and an acceptable driving record are required.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>Preferred Job Requirements:</u></strong></p>\n<p>Vo-Tech training or certification in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or other relevant field; Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Math, or other relevant field; and one year of experience in a mechanical, maintenance, or vocational trade in a water or wastewater field are preferred.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong><u>Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:</u></strong></p>\n<p>Excessive standing and/or walking: 67-100%</p>\n<p>Exposure to extreme temperatures.</p>\n<p>Exposure to fumes and/or chemicals.</p>\n<p>Exposure to heights.</p>\n<p>Exposure to loud noises.</p>\n<p>Lifting: 50 lbs. without assistance (up to 33%) and 50-100 lbs. with assistance (up to 33%)</p>\n<p>Exposure to raw sewage.</p>\n<p>On call/stand-by work required.</p>\n<p>Safety sensitive job.</p>\n<p>Shift work may be required depending on position, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedule.</p>\n<p>Weather essential job.
