Be Part of What’s Next
Join us in shaping the future of media. As Senior Vice President of Engineering, you'll lead the strategy and execution of a modern technology organization that powers some of the world’s most iconic media brands. From cutting-edge AI integration to scalable, cloud-based architecture, this is your opportunity to build what’s next — for the industry, our teams, and millions of consumers.
About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)
Hearst Magazines’ portfolio of more than 30 iconic brands in the U.S.—including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Harper’s BAZAAR, and Popular Mechanics—inspires, entertains, and builds new and bold experiences for an engaged and growing audience across digital, video, social and print, reaching nearly 130 million readers and site visitors each month. With sophisticated content creation, cutting-edge technology, and industry-leading data capabilities, we make media and products that move people across all platforms. We are a global media company that publishes nearly 200 magazine editions and 175 websites around the world—and together, we are shaping what’s next.
Key Responsibilities (What You’re Doing)
Define and drive Hearst Magazines’ technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap to ensure systems remain current, scalable, and future-ready. Oversee a composable, cloud-based architecture supporting both internal platforms (CMS, data, content management) and consumer-facing experiences. Partner with Product and Data to implement AI-assisted engineering and data-driven personalization across workflows and platforms. Foster a collaborative culture across Product, Design, and Technology, ensuring roadmap alignment and impactful user experiences. Lead engineering operations focused on reliability, performance, and security across all digital platforms. Grow and mentor a high-performing, inclusive engineering organization, and evolve team structure to meet future business needs. Manage global delivery through a strategic mix of nearshore/offshore vendors and in-house teams, ensuring high velocity and quality. Align technology budgets and priorities to business goals, balancing innovation with operational excellence. Champion security, compliance, and governance standards across platforms and services. Qualifications (What We’re Looking For)
15+ years of experience in software and technology leadership, with 7+ years managing large, multi-location engineering organizations. Proven success modernizing enterprise technology through cloud migration, modular architecture, and data platform innovation. Hands-on experience deploying AI and data capabilities to enhance engineering productivity and personalization. Strong understanding of CMS ecosystems (including headless/hybrid), microservices architecture, and digital consumer products. Experience building and managing hybrid teams of FTEs and contractors across global locations. Track record of effective cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and Business teams. Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical vision into business outcomes. Hybrid role based in New York City; in-office 4 days per week. Benefits (What We Offer)
