Description
At KCI Construction, protecting our people is a top priority. As the Project Safety Manager, you will lead safety, risk management, and compliance efforts while partnering with project teams to create safe, productive, and compliant job sites.
This role will initially support a $200 million design-build transportation project, working alongside project leadership and field teams to drive safety performance and project success. As the project progresses, the role will expand to support multiple projects across KCI's portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of KCI's safety, loss control, and risk management programs across assigned projects.
Develop and maintain project-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and risk mitigation strategies.
Partner with project leadership, field supervision, subcontractors, and craft employees to promote a strong safety culture.
Maintain a visible presence in the field through safety audits, inspections, observations, and coaching.
Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution of safety concerns.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries to determine root causes and implement preventative measures.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Develop and deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, and project teams.
Support new employee orientation and ongoing safety education initiatives.
Monitor Workers' Compensation claims and collaborate with operations and insurance partners to reduce claim costs and lost-time incidents.
Track safety performance metrics, analyze trends, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Participate in preconstruction planning to identify project risks and develop effective safety strategies.
Maintain required safety records, documentation, and regulatory reporting.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety & health or related field preferred.
10+ years of construction safety experience, preferably in heavy civil.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
DOT and MSHA experience preferred.
OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 510 certification preferred.
Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and safety training programs.
Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization.
Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
