Overview Under general direction will perform a variety of complex accounting, financial analyses and financial reporting functions. Will work independently, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of accounting and data analytics in area of responsibility. Responsibilities Core Reporting Responsibilities GAAP financial reporting — Preparation of quarterly unaudited and annual audited U.S. GAAP financial statements and footnotes Statutory reporting — Preparation of NAIC statutory statements, MD&A, and required annual schedules IFRS reporting — Preparation of quarterly President’s Report (CEO/CFO Report), IFRS financial statements, and supplemental reporting for Fairfax External audit coordination — Primary liaison with external auditors; management of audit requests Technical accounting research and compliance — Monitoring and implementing FASB updates, GAAP Codification and NAIC SSAPs changes, and emerging accounting standards Internal controls and documentation — Maintaining internal control support, process documentation, and audit evidence Footnote and disclosure preparation — Drafting disclosures, supporting schedules, and cross‑statement tie‑outs Technical accounting research — Evaluating new guidance and updating disclosures Disclosure consistency management — Ensuring alignment across GAAP, STAT, and IFRS Audit and regulatory support — Responding to auditor inquiries and regulatory requests Going concern and SAS 136 assessments 401(k) plan financial statement reviews IFRS reporting package and supplemental schedules Year‑Round Audit Coordination PBC list management and request tracking Audit committee materials preparation Manage/coordinate issuance of the audit opinion and financial statements Continuous audit cycle — External auditors are onsite from June through the following May requiring heavy liaising Operational Responsibilities Beyond Reporting Financial Reporting also manages critical recurring operational processes, including: Monthly expense analysis, accruals, and intercompany analysis Intercompany wire settlements and invoice processing Monthly cash reconciliations Quarterly ZNIC variance analysis Consolidation and close activities for quarterly and annual close processes Recurring journal entries (debt, intangibles) Parent‑only financial statements SAB 108 schedules IFRS/GAAP/STAT rollforwards in Workiva Providing Internal Audit support and control documentation Dividend capacity schedules and DOI correspondence Debt covenant compliance documents Maintenance of internal‑use reporting schedules and workbooks Annual IFRS accounting checklist, GAAP quarterly disclosure checklist, GAAP ASU Log Fairfax certifications and monitoring quarterly changes to Fairfax reporting structures Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent required Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training/experience in Accounting/Finance/Economics or related field required Work Experience 7+ years relevant, progressively responsible accounting/financial analysis experience or 3+ years of public accounting experience required CPA certificate or an MBA preferred GAAP, IFRS or SEC experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Insurance industry experience strongly preferred. Oracles EBS experience a plus. Work effectively with multiple departments to resolve issues related to billing, payments, documentation, approvals and Company policies. Strong math and reading skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Adaptable to the changing needs of the department. Willing to assume new responsibilities as they arise and replace old routines with improved methods of problem solving. Ability to think creatively and effectively manage time (i.e., prioritize work and handle multiple assignments simultaneously). Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team. Ability to communicate with customers at all levels about the company's policies. Highly ethical standards (integrity and confidentiality). Strong work ethic and flexibility to meet established/changing deadlines. Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Outlook. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
